Although original intended to stop Internet piracy of creative works such as music and video, this is another example of the takedown provisions of the DMCA being used to avoid the time and expense of obtaining a court order to remove documents that, while possibly sensitive or embarrassing, do not themselves have commercial value. On February 23, 2010, technology blog TechCrunch posted a document it theorized was sent to it by an "angry" or "former" MySpace employee. 'Thirteen' is Tribella's second release, following on from their debut EP (released last year) and it's an odd blend of something that is certainly pop but also something else - not pop-rock, not pop-punk. Maybe pop-folk? Pop-indie? Whatever it is, the pop most certainly comes first, but that's not to say it's all sugary cheer and no substance.The album kicks off with '13', a chilled, dreamy tune with nice layers and interesting rhythm - just enough to make you listen but not enough to catch you off guard. The second track on the album, 'WTKN', kick-starts the mood a little more with a funky riff and plenty of Tribella's signature reverb. The lyrics are poppy but clever, and the music is... well, actually, it's excellent. Toe-tapping, dance-y stuff.The album loses momentum somewhat towards the middle with 'Skate Park Instrumental' which seems like a bit of a filler song, but Tribella are soon rescued by the lovely tinkle of 'Rev Script', all crystal-clear riffs and breathy vocals. Do they continue down their existing path and produce an album that will be embraced by the masses (as mass as indie rock fans can be) or do they detour into a more artistic sound?The answer we get from the new album Transferenceis firmly the latter.Taking a page out of the Wilco playbook, Britt Daniel and company have produced an album that is both familiar yet experimental. The band uses their well-established sound as a jumping off point. As Mr Cloudy, Russian techno producer Sergey Barkalov has previously released tracks on netlabels such as Deepindub and Kyoto_Digital, and this latest contribution to Rednetic’s ultra-limited techno-oriented 3 CDR series follows on the heels of his recent Different Lives remix collection for Shoreless Recordings. ‘Excursion’ opens proceedings by throwing the listener straight down into cavernous dub-techno as dry, sharp-focus snares and ticking hi-hats trace a percussive outline around vast, echoing dubbed out tones and ratcheting cut-up rhythmic fragments, in an inspired offering that owes more than a bit to Rhythm & Sound’s sculpted dub-techno template. ‘Therefrom’ meanwhile rouses the mood out of its smoked out fugue, ushering in buzzing, reverberating dancehall-inflected synths as rattling snares inject some additional dancefloor swing, before ‘Datura’ sees Barkalov removing the beats entirely, in favour of an ambient glide through blissful synth washe

Opening with a track of wonked out scale modulations, which in another time would be termed psychedelic, Delicate Noise introduces Filmezza. Then brashly into handclaps, child wonder at butterflys, synth circular brightness and laid back drum patterns. ‘Butterfly envy’, so described, entertains the childs relation with natural beauty to be that of wonder and beauty, while reviewing the interplay as a psych state laced with a seed of perdition. These ideas are continued in Roundlake park with interactions with environments being the order of the day, lush waterscapes and ambient park recordings hang on strings and drum patterns. Mark Andrushko makes much of the warmth of vintage synths, and plays the psych edge up, with a hint of menace, at the edge. A kind of tripped out Hitchcock of electronica presenting darkly bright melodies, even in ‘Pheremone’ an echo of children’s rhymes undercut the nostalgia with hushed scattered murmurs of a child’s sinister collusion.
