| GETTYMOVIE ... A BILLION BUCKS ... GRANT MACDONALD KSPC 88.7 FM www.kspc.org Current Favorite ... Music Director's Pick of the Week Grant MacDonald - A Billion Bucks - MacDonald Studios We get a lot of records in at the station. From slick, over-produced indie-pop/rock records with lots of promotion and no visible flaws to amazingly terrible records that are completely ignorant to the fact that they possess more camp value than any 1950s B-movie ever made. And then there are records like this one. Plain packing decorated only by a skinny white man with crossed arms and boxer briefs. Hes on the back, too, in karate-kick pose wearing an orange speedo and a striped polo shirt. I opened it mostly because I was wondering if it was actually a very clever Pink and Brown side project. Its not. Entitled, "A Billion Bucks", the entire album is homemade electronic music under cut-up spoken word. Apparently, its the soundtrack to MacDonalds film about how the Getty Oil Company sold oil to the Nazis during WWII and is now being sued for $100 million dollars. By him (I think). It was a joyous moment, finding this record amongst the hundreds that scatter my basement office. Proof, somehow, that there are people of brilliance out there (intentional or unintentional) that have a vision completely separate from all the hip shit that goes down in the city.
