PERCUSSION JUNCTION

THE BEAT CARTEL

Release Date: 28th June
Label/Distributor: Vitamin Records

Most bands would say one drummer is enough, but more is more in the world of Percussion Junction. Packing beats like soldiers pack bullets, the boys have declared all out war on dance floors' across the nation.

Their debut album 'The Beat Cartel' is a 100-proof brew of Afro-Latin drumming distilled with hip hop, reggae, electro, house and breaks. As an organized funk syndicate, 'Junction' composes with an orchestral army of percussion. Kane Goodwin (drum kit) Matty Bourne (congas, bongos & djembe) and Paul Issa (Doumbek) are backed by Benjamin 'Bentley' Chinnock on decks.

With Triple J picking up the beat and FBI already dropping it as album of the week, the boys have supported international and local acts Krafty Kuts (UK), Talvin Singh (UK), Panjea (US), Koolism, Kid Kenobi and Ajax. They've taken over Sydney venues like The State Theatre, The Basement and Telstra Stadium and played to sell out crowds at The Amnesty International Freedom Festival, Earthdance and Sydney Festival's Becks Bar.

There's enough international flavour in 'The Beat Cartel' to rival a United Nations convention. The Afro-Cuban beats of the Junction boys borrow from every drum kit in tribal history. MC Samir Samaali (France) and Watussi's Vicente Sebastian appear on 'Bustdown Brown' with Alex from Good Buddha, while reggae vocals from MC Nikkita and Gina Mitchell (basslines) on 'Iron Eagle' pitches Caribbean dance hall against electronic rave.

Guest MC's drop into the cartel smoothly; Sydney's MC Gabi features on 'All out War', a high energy hybrid of hip hop and house which is an easy bet to slay the club crowds.

With The Versionaries, Omegaman and Roy Two Thousand all jumping on board for remixes, Percussion Junction's 'The Beat Cartel' is a tribal boom box of retro synths, bass licks and cow bells. To conincide with the release, the lads are hitting the road for a seven date national tour in July. Percussion Junction, hitting the mark and the skins in 2008.
