Exploding from the fingertips and vocal chords of some of Australia's finest musicians are Good Buddha's superb singles 'Movin On' and 'Bouncin'. The 6-piece band have been skimming the cream off the top of every genre that tickles their fancy, whipping up hook-laden vocal excursions to satisfy any type of musical hunger.
Wind the clock back to 1998 and Sydney's Good Buddha were testing their rhymes and rhythms playing huge house parties for fortunate friends. Their sparkling performances and dynamic energy ensured the word would quickly spread. Appearances at festivals including Splendour in the Grass, the Woodford Folk Festival, Good Vibrations and the Big Day Out, supporting the likes of everyone from People Under the Stairs, Ugly Duckling, The Pharcyde, Grandmaster Flash, Black Eyed Peas and Lyrics Born to name a few, ensued.
Now, a decade from conception the barely contained bundle of energy that is the atomic core of the band (Matt, Andy, Al, Nui, Jack, and Lachie) have harnessed that energy to produce, 'Movin on' and 'Bouncin', the first offerings from their upcoming third album 'Hit the Sky Running' due out in April.
'Movin On' is the perfect soundtrack to that mysteriously rare 'hands in the air' kind of house party experience that only happens once a leap year when the stars align. A 70s half-time beat weaves its way through friendly samples and amped up vocals to create a refreshingly original track that sticks around in your memory even longer than the morning-after beer smell.
'Bouncin' is a loved-up reggae flavoured rap on romance with the sort of hook that'll have you bopping in your car like you just don't care. Lovers and dancefloor affiliates rejoice.
When a group that takes their music but not themselves seriously extends their hand, the result is effervescent musical experimentalism and fun at its finest. And who wouldn't want to jump on the bandwagon, when the passengers are obviously having the time of their lives?!
