Big Day Out 2003

press release

If it looks like a circus, feels like a circus & smells like a circus...

Now in it's eleventh year we are gearing up to deliver what we believe to be one of the most exciting, diverse & dynamic Big Day Out series so far.

The 2002 Big Day Out was a huge success. The event attracted over 220,000 people, had three sell out shows (Gold Coast, Sydney and Melbourne) and great feedback from the audience, bands, media and even the authorities. We really need to thank everyone for their support in making it possible to stage such a large series of events while keeping it safe, fun and a joy to be part of again.

Its an amazing feeling when it all comes together.

For 2003 we have secured an incredible array of talent from around the globe to liven up your summer. Over the next few months these first acts will be joined by many more international & local artists to help create the six unique Big Day Out events.

From far away shores we are proud to announce the crankin' sounds of the FOO FIGHTERS who will perform hot on the heels of their much anticipated new album (One By One). The mighty QUEENS OF THE STONEAGE will once again take the BDO challenge along with the hyper dynamic DEFTONES.

Direct from the U.K we introduce new kids on the block THE MUSIC and proudly confirm the return of the superlative PJ HARVEY. We also bring you the sweet country rock sounds of WILCO and Swedish punk rock kings MILLENCOLIN who make their Big Day Out debut along with German based art-rock trio CHICKS ON SPEED. The musically daring LUKE SLATER returns to bump up the BPM's. And in their first full tour of Australia the legendary KRAFTWERK will show how it's really done when they perform in the Boiler Room.

Joining them from the home frontier will be some of Australia's finest exports. Gearing up for the release of a brand new album THE LIVING END will perform their first shows after a mini hiatus. And currently hotter than a firecracker THE VINES will make their Big Day Out debut alongside confirmed heavy hitters ROCKET SCIENCE, PACIFIER, FRENZAL RHOMB, THE HARD ONS, BEXTA (live), 28 DAYS, RESIN DOGS and 1200 TECHNIQUES.
