A property I was renting was due to be sold, and an open house inspection was organised accordingly. In response to the sense of personal invasion I felt, I proceeded to set up cameras around the house; as a way of returning the gaze. From the recorded footage I created the video installation The Human Experiment, 2008; a work that reflected my subjective response to these strangers looking through my house. The works are slow, deliberate and painterly; reflecting an interplay between the politics and poetics of space. Particularly important in this work is how bodies move in space, how we communicate nonverbally, and also the rhythms of our existence.
