The Third Annual Grand Desert Festival - the only music extravaganza hosted in the Moroccan Sahara - to celebrate Worldwide Saharaoui Music and Culture and to promote a greater exchange between Morocco, the United States and the rest of the World.
The Third Annual "Grand Desert Festival " - scheduled December 29, 2003, through January 1, 2003 - celebrates the birth of the New Year from the mystical sands of the Moroccan Sahara. Promoting the artistry and the achievements of Worldwide Saharaoui Music and Culture, the festival will travel as a caravan from the famous place of Jama El-fana past the ancient kasbahs of Zagora, to its ultimate desert destination-M'hamid Elghizlan, unveiling the mysteries of a desert unchanged since caravans loaded with spices, gold, and indigo crossed silently in the night.
This annual event garnered enormous media attention last year from Moroccan national television - RTM and 2M - and national newspapers. Last year's festival was such a success that this year's massive worldwide promotion promises an even greater turnout.
