Established artists and hot new talent will be exhibited together in CarriageWorks’ stunning foyer at carriageARTworks. A free annual exhibition in it’s second year running, carriageARTWorks celebrates art and art culture from Sydney’s city fringe. The exhibition features the most original and evocative works of art selected from various galleries and Artist Run Initiatives in the emerging Redfern Waterloo precinct. Curated by a panel of well-known Sydney art figures, the event provides a supportive environment for audiences to engage with up-and-coming artists and be inspired.
The exhibition will feature work on canvas, sculpture, photography, mixed media, video art, performance art and textiles. Held over a month, carriageARTWorks will unfold into a multi-faceted public showcase of creativity. A program of artist talks, tours and themed forums will spark conversation around making art, making a living from art, and art from the consumers’ point of view.
CarriageWorks is housed in the old Eveleigh Rail Yards at Wilson Street, located within the emerging Redfern Waterloo precinct, and has been developed by the NSW State Government through Arts NSW. Starting with the cathedral-scale foyer, the physical beauty and scope of CarriageWorks is inspiring. The distinctive nineteenth century industrial atmosphere of the former railway carriage and blacksmith workshops have been retained, with many heritage iron and brick details featured in the regeneration of the building
