Residential weekend
Time: 6pm - 4pm
How much does the power of ritual depend upon stepping out of the familiar and doing something new or unexpected?
Or how much does it rely upon links with ancient traditions and wisdom?
In the latter case, should we work with the local traditions, or should we rather work with the traditions of our own ancestors – who may have lived on the far side of the world?
Books are still the main source of ritual ideas for the solo worker, or isolated ritual group, and the majority either focuses on one particular tradition from the Northern hemisphere, or else recommends a break with all traditions, as in chaos magic.
So how can we learn to build rituals that feel right for us, here and now? Rituals that make the right balance between the new and the old, between ourselves and the place we live in, between magical purpose and artistic expression?
In this workshop an experienced ritualist takes us through the elements of ritual and we explore ways to discover what really works for us and how to build it into our ritual working. As well as working individually, in this workshop we also use these techniques to co-create rituals in small and larger groups.
If you already have your own ritual tools you are welcome to bring them, and if you have prior experience you are invited to share it. If you have neither you are especially welcome to join us in exploring both new and traditional ways to bring the joy and magic of ritual into your life.
Ramsey Dukes Occult philosopher - Contemporary magickian
His first childhood taste of magic was through Ted Bryant, disciple of Aleister Crowley and friend of Lady Freida Harris, and he later got to know Gerald Yorke, keeper of the Crowley archive. By 1970 Ramsey Dukes was a Cambridge maths scholar teaching at Eton College and with a long standing interest in magic, alchemy, Crowley, Spare and the occult.
He then began writing and publishing a number of books that helped define late 20th century magick - notably SSOTBME and Thundersqueak, seminal texts of contemporary magick, and Words Made Flesh, defining the information model of magickal reality.
He performed the Abramelin operation in 1977 and is a senior member of the Caliphate O.T.O., long-time junior in the IOT and faculty member of Arcanorium College.
