Live: Ellington
Performances: Ellington,Short Stack
Time: 8pm - 0am
Late last year Ellington toured East Coast Australia to promote their debut single Wide Awake and Smiling and essentially, introduce themselves to their home country. This is a band that had already gained a torrent of attention from fans all over the world and had just signed a publishing deal in Australia with Sony Music. As stands at the moment their myspace site has had well over a million total listens (1,307,002 to be precise) and nearly three quarters of a million profile views (712,479).
So what’s the go? In April 2008 Ellington co founders Jake Bosci (vocal/guitar) and Michael Beaston (guitar) self funded a trip from their hometown of Tannum Sands in North Qld to Atlanta USA to record their sophomore EP with legendary producer Mat Malpass (Copeland, Lydia). Once completed, word on the EP spread like wildfire online and overseas, but is only just registering in Australia now.
Introducing: More Like A Movie, Less Like Real Life. The recording sessions in Atlanta saw Ellington return to Australia with a release that affirms them as a band with boundless potential. A long way from their 2006 debut EP - The Joy We Keep In , which had been recorded in an industrial estate in Brisbane for $2000 - More Like A Movie, Less Like Real Life featuring guest performances from Matthew Thiessen (Relient K), Jeff Turner (Say Anything) and Leighton Antelman (Lydia), More Like A Movie, Less Like Real Life is available on iTunes now.
To celebrate, Ellington have just announced a massive string of supports for both Behind Crimson Eyes and Short Stack, from May through to July respectively (please find full tour dates below) .
The last few months have seen a long process of negotiations with a number of major labels here in Australia, the results of which will be announced shortly, but Ellington have also used the time to undergo a bit of a make over. They’re getting ready to relocate to Brisbane, have added an acoustic guitar player to fill out their sound, have taken the time to rehearse a new set for all the upcoming shows and are well along the way to emerging with the new tracks that will make up their debut album.
But for the time being its too More Like A Movie, Less Like Real Life that all attention falls. Catch Ellington at the following shows – and watch this space for what is sure to be a lot of news over the coming months.
