FESTIVAL OF THE WINDS TURNS 30!
Come down to Bondi Pavilion and park to help us celebrate!
Sunday 14 September, 2008 11.00am to 4.00pm
Make sure you don’t miss Australia’s largest and most exciting kite flying festival this year, which promises to be a great day out for the whole family.
The skies will come alive with hundreds of kites of all shapes and sizes from local and international kite-makers and flyers. Look out for the hand-painted silk pieces of ‘flying art’ from this year's international guest, Asghar Belim from Rajasthan, whose beautiful kites display traditional motives drawn from Indian culture.
There will also be some fabulous Delta and Free Form kites from the Australian Kiteflyers Society members who will be showcasing their own designs, as well as kite designs from India, Malaysia, China and Japan.
And it’s not just the experts who can fly their kites - why not come down and fly your own! If you don’t have a kite you can buy one from one of the stalls in the park, or better still, you can make your own at one of our kite making workshops. If you fancy the experience of flying yourself, try a ride on the Pacific Fly Motion Bungy trampoline.
There will be a dynamic multicultural entertainment program in the Pavilion Courtyard Amphitheatre of great music and dance, and free music and dance workshops for everyone.
For the children there will be additional rides, face painting, an animal farm, wandering minstrels, jugglers, stilt walkers, puppeteers, clowns and craft workshops.
A selection of multicultural food stalls offering food and drinks from all over the world will be on hand or, for something simpler, nothing could be better than a good old fashioned sausage sizzle! Don’t forget a visit to the Bondi Pavilion Gallery, which will host a spectacular aerial art exhibition. The gallery will be open daily for viewing from 10am-5pm. Admission is free.
There’s so much to do and see at this year's FESTIVAL OF THE WINDS, so if you’re up for a great day out, then the only place to be on Sunday, 14 September is down at Bondi Beach for Sydney’s most colourful, fun-filled, family-friendly festival.
For further information, call the Bondi Pavilion on 8362 3400. Program to be advised.
Presented by the Bondi Pavilion Community Cultural Centre in association with The Australian Kiteflyers Society.
