- THE SYDNEY SCENE:
- Good..The venues and the DJs not restricted to particular styles.
Bad..Those that are."
- ADMIRATION:
- "those that play naturally, from the heart, and those that are able to create without being restricted to following the rigid A B Cs of DJ mixing (16:32 etc). You know who you are and I appreciate you all. I don't admire the "robo DJs."
- GO FOR IT:
- "In the '70s, after playing piano in live bands, the natural progression
(particularly for me, being of the different sexual persuasion that I was) was to disco music.
Gay audiences were a strong force in the establishment of what is known as house, garage, high energy, etc.
Being the creative and artistic people we were, we were always receptive to new sounds and quality disco music.
That is why we had the best discos in town. This is what I'm working to restore.
The "robo" DJs haveconditioned their crowds into accepting mindless, commercially formulated music, lacking in feeling and creativity
to the point where even the straights are able to dictate at what were once our parties.
Thak god we have the alternatives and DJs I admire for having the knowledge feeling and guts of their convictions, and at the same time
holding their jobs in what some people consider an easy occupation.
Thank you Ben, Steven, Lexie, Alex, Sylvia, Colleen, Rob, Liz, Paul, Luke, Paul and Pam (your set at Hand In Hand blew me away).
Most of all I thank my audience and all of you wonderful drag queens."
