2x Feb 13 ACDC tickets to swap General A

Have 2 tickets for Feb 13 Melbourne Etihad General Admission (access to mosh pit) however my girlfriend just broke her arm pretty badly (pretty much snapped it) and I want her in a seat where she is less likely to get knocked around. Can't talk her out of going so I really need somebody who wants to get out of the bleachers and into the pit to swap tickets with.

Happy to cover difference in price. Tickets are genuine. For obvious reasons it must be both tickets or none. This is very important to us so please ask around your friends.

Looking for a kicka$$ bass player - Sydn

hard hitting cover band She Likes Mayhem is lookin for a new bass player and we were wondering.... could it be you?
we have 40 plus covers and are adding more to our repertoire every day, have just started to crack into the inner city music scene and are looking to expand our horizons. but here's the thing - it's going 2 be a little difficult to play live while we're searching for a bass player. so i'll give you all the details and you can decide whether or not you reckon you'd fit with us.
there are 3 of us in the band right now, me Jett - the vocalist, Max our wicked lead guitarist and Izzey our kickass drummer! we rehearse once a week near the hills district, we play songs by the likes of greenday, audioslave, U2, the tea party etc, very wide range of songs/ artists, and we're awesome fun (even if i do say so myself)! sooo, we like to have a bit of a laugh but it doesnt mean we don't work damn hard. are you driven? are you fun? could it be you? check us out: www.myspace.com/shelikezmayhem
then let us know if you reckon you're SLM's newest member

Like millions of people around the world these three performers have been influenced by the music of Hendrix and Vaughan and for many years they have incorporated the essence of the two legends into their own playing, becoming disciples of the style. Hendrix's music in particular helped shape a generation. His arrival and subsequent performances in United Kingdom in the late sixties turned the British music scene on it's head. Players such as Eric Clapton, Pete Townshend, Jeff Beck and many more were absolutely astounded at what Hendrix was able to achieve with his guitar and outrageous stage persona. He was a black superstar that had massive appeal to white audiences both male and female. On the other hand Vaughan's legacy is that he resurrected the blues with a Hendrix inspired rock approach. His ferocious guitar playing reverberated around the world, inspiring countless players along the way.

This show will revisit timeless rock and blues classics such as Jimi's Voodoo Chile, Manic Depression, Foxy Lady, and Purple Haze, and Stevie's classic Cold Shot, Texas Flood, Couldn't Stand The Weather and Pride & Joy.

Wolf Mail - Solid ground CD

I was quite surprise with this release, its kind of a recollection of the good all rock blues stuff(Hendrix, Zep, Stones, SRV) but with a new twist to it and a refreshing style. Love the modest guitar playing, you can still tell this guy can deliver but he plays what's right for the song (love that..)Nice warm voice too, and as far as song writing goes , that’s where I will give WolfMail the over the top compliment, there is a different flavour on each track, but he manages to keep a continuity and his own style through it all! I would highly recommend it..

Lance Reegan-Diehl And The Innocent Byst

Artist: Lance Reegan-Diehl And The Innocent Bystanders
Title: Internal Construction
Genre: Rock-Blues
Label: LRD Music Studio
Website
CD Baby Link

Lance Reegan-Diehl, otherwise known as LRD for short, is a musician living and working in Korea creating great music on a consistent basis. His most recent release Internal Construction is a tremendous recording.

LRD plays a mean guitar and sings with emotionally drenched vocals. You can feel every word and the music that drives it all along rocks consistently throughout this recording. It is important to note the title of the CD. Think about it, this man is speaking about working on your inner self, the building blocks of spirituality. It became apparent to me that he is divinely inspired; it is in his playing and lyrics. Nobody plays guitar and sings like this without remarkable force of will and positive energy behind it all. Lance has some amazing backing musicians as well, featuring the rhythm section of David Dauberman (bass) and Tony Le Rhodes (drums and percussion).

This is all good so it is difficult to pick favorites. The opening track “Glory” is excellent; a driving instrumental number like Vai, Satriani, or Johnson would play. What a great way to start the proceedings. “Love To Burn” is a fantastic blues rocker with Megan Kim providing the necessary vocals to make the circle of emotions complete. She has a great set of pipes built for this kind of song. Lance really rips off some stinging guitar lines on the track-he is on fire! On “Cuz We Ended As Lovers” he does a pretty good job but it does not come close to Jeff Beck’s performance on his legendary jazz-rock-fusion album Blow By Blow. Honestly though, how many guitarists can touch Beck? He gets an ‘A’ for effort. It takes a lot guts to tackle a number that difficult to play. That actually is the only track on the entire CD that I heard any sign of faltering but then again I am comparing it to the original version and there really is no comparison to make.

LRD has his place in this world of music surely, and he stakes his claim with authority, sounding original with some exciting great sounds. I like his playing and the lyrics he puts to all the music. Everything has a meaning, there is no room for nonsensical tracks, and all of it is quality musicianship. For an indie release it is top notch, it does not get any better. This artist has nowhere to go but up from this point. As more people discover the music of Lance Reegan-Diehl, the awareness of his powerful musical presence will become common knowledge amongst real music fans.

Dave Shelton-Fall

Artist: Dave Shelton
Title: Fall
Genre: Rock-Pop
Website
Label: Independent
CD Baby Link

Dave Shelton is a bit of throwback with a classic rock kind of sound to his songs. He plays all the instruments, guitar, bass, drums, and even provides the background vocals to compliment his strong lead. The great classic rock sound gets a huge boost from the keyboard playing of Mark Christopher. He does the Hammond B-3 justice and does a nice job of layering in a driving groove for Shelton to put all of his instrumentation and voice on. To top it all off, the mix and sound quality are above average.

“Drive” is a rocker that reminded me of a good Lenny Kravitz tune, Shelton’s playing sounds like Kravitz and his vocals do as well. It has that non-stop energetic beat that never lets up and some killer lead guitar hooks that grab you right from the start. “Depression” is what it is lyrically; musically it is one of the meatier and layered tunes on the recording. There is a nice blend of vocals, instrumentation, and feeling throughout the track. All 11 tracks offer you some rock and pop with just a smidgen of the blues here and there to give it that much more depth and overall feeling.

I like this guy Dave Shelton, he is multitalented-singing, and playing like this was his last shot to make it. Every artist should go into the recording studio that way, just a like an athlete that competes as if it was their last day on earth. You only have one opportunity to catch a listener’s ear; you may as well do it consistently throughout an album so the word spreads about your music. I can honestly say that Shelton accomplishes this, and there are so many that fall short these days, its refreshing and exciting to hear.

Jimi Hendrix Live At Woodstock

Artist: Jimi Hendrix
Title: Jimi Hendrix Live At Woodstock
Genre: Rock-Blues
Format: DVD (2 DVD Set w/booklet)
Label: Experience Hendrix
Website

Jimi Hendrix is one of the most documented rock icons through recorded music and videos now. There was a time when this was not so but thanks to his family taking things over and getting things done right we are able to enjoy the man’s legacy to the fullest extent possible.

I was only 11 years old when Woodstock was happening. My older brother, who has eight years on me, said he was there, but many people said they were there and I know that the sixties were good to him so I have my doubts, sorry bro.

Jimi Hendrix Live At Woodstock brings his incredible performance back to life. This one performance changed the face of music forever. Yes, the event itself created changes and had a huge impact on an entire generation, and there can be no doubt in anyone’s mind that witnessed Hendrix, knew he was the star of the event.

I have never seen all of this footage before. Over the years I have watched bits and pieces of Woodstock, however to actually sit down and witness Hendrix playing nearly his entire set was breathtaking.

This two DVD set is remastered beautifully with just a few minor imperfections here and there that were unavoidable. Considering the conditions at the time, the equipment they used, and the techniques for filming, well, the production of this is nothing short of spectacular. For the most part the quality is excellent. The second CD features the only known filmed performance at Woodstock of Jimi playing “Hear My Train A Comin’.” Ironically, it was a film student that sneaked onstage somehow and filmed it, and that is the reason we can view it today. The film is mostly black and white and filmed from the side of the stage so the angle is not that good, and it flips flops from black and white to color. This is how things worked out with the changing of films during sets, thus the ability to get an entire performance documented on film was impossible. We take for granted the technologies we have today.

I was totally captivated watching these DVDs, mesmerized is an over used term on my behalf, but I was in that state most of the time watching this guitar god do his thing, its as simple as that. The interviews with all of the people that worked with Jimi were interesting. Eddie Kramer, the Band of Gypsies bass player Billy Cox, and drummer Mitch Mitchell, all provided an up-close view of Hendrix. It was so interesting hearing about the early days and what Jimi was doing to make his way to stardom. There is nothing like a great story to go along with the music.

This is necessary item to have for any rock fan and for Hendrix fans, well, need I say anymore? Get it.

Wampus Multimedia Launches Specialty Lab

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

New Independent Imprint To Focus On Eclectic Reissues And Compilations

May 23, 2006 (Clifton, VA)--Some record labels reissue familiar albums that have fallen out of fashion. Others specialize in repackaging old hits for new markets. Foldback Records, the new reissue imprint of U.S. independent label Wampus Multimedia, focuses on lost treasures and offbeat delights, eclectic records you might have missed the first time around. Like Rhino Records and Rykodisc, Foldback envisions a niche market for unique, high-quality music, regardless of its perceived shelf life or commercial positioning.

“When you play a record for the first time,” says Mark Doyon, president and creative director of Wampus Multimedia, “it’s new to you regardless of when it was made, and all you care about is if it’s good, if it’s engaging you. When you like what you hear, you discover more albums by the artist, and you’re surprised you didn’t know them before. It’s how casual listeners become fans.”

Rolling out the new imprint with five discs from alternative singer-songwriters, Foldback showcases literate artists who operate from distinctive points of view. U.K. transplants The Crowd Scene return with their too-good-to-miss-in-conscience debut, Turn Left at Greenland, an urbane classic that includes a pair of tracks omitted from the original release. Alice Despard weighs in with Push Me Pull You and Samsara, ringing touchstones that influenced the burgeoning 1990s indie scene. Johnny J Blair checks in with the Brian-Wilson-on-neo-soul masterwork, Fire. The Simple Things unveil their irrepressible best-of, President Foushee, including new material.

Foldback artists benefit from Wampus Multimedia marketing, promotion, and distribution, and enjoy a partnership-based royalty structure that ignores industry norms.

The Foldback titles join a Wampus Multimedia roster that includes Cafebar 401, tvfordogs, Casey Abrams, Arms of Kismet, Johnny J Blair, Alice Despard, and others, as well as Hurry Home Early: the Songs of Warren Zevon, After Hours: a Tribute to the Music of Lou Reed, and If I Were a Richman: a Tribute to the Music of Jonathan Richman.

Wampus Multimedia (www.wampus.com) is an independent label run by artists, for artists. Its credo is simple: to introduce the world to the boldest new music rendered by visionary artists. Founded by Mark Doyon, writer, editor, musician, and producer, Wampus is home to a growing roster of independent artists from a variety of genres, including pop, AAA, Americana, alternative, ambient, blues, and folk.

Foldback Records releases are available at Amazon, CD Baby, Tower Records, Borders, iTunes, and other fine stores.

IGR Productions Release Downsiid Video B

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Austin, Texas--May 22, 2006--Texas rockers Downsiid have decided to capitalize on their single “Ballin’” from their scorching hot metal meets rap album The Evolution of Ghetto Rock with an independently released video for the song. Directed by IGR Productions out of Austin Texas, this is the band’s third self-funded video. Downsiid indie label Inner Global Records from Austin coordinated the efforts and the band’s manager Pete “Habo” Massey produced the video with the rest of the Downsiid management team XM2.

The “Ballin’” video features each Downsiid band member in a dream sequence living the high life of rock stars, with all the money, cars, and women, the typical things people associate with that style of life. The music sets the pace as members live out their fantasy fast and furious just like the lifestyle they portray in the video. The popularity of the song is sure to get another big boost once the video starts to circulate.

In addition to the success of the new album and single, Downsiid were invited to play the Hyperactive Festival in New Mexico on June 10 and the famous El Rey Theater from 11:30pm-12:15am. They will be kicking off a tour that IGR has arranged called the Freedom Tour this July as well. Many of the band members are veterans of military service and they wanted to show their appreciation for our brothers and sisters in arms by visiting six military towns in July and August.

Downsiid may be rockers on the stage but off the stage they are homegrown American’s with an appreciation for the people that maintain our freedom and keep our country safe. The band steps outside the box and pushes aside any labels or stereotypes that their music may invite with a great sound and a strong purpose to back it all up.

Cjeff-Positive

Artist: Cjeff
Title: Positive
Genre: Instrumental-Contemporary-Jazz-Fusion
Label: Independent
Website

Christopher Leighton, known as Cjeff in the world of music, has a new release titled Positive. Leighton makes his way through 10 lively tracks hewn with the textures and colors of contemporary jazz, the fusion of rock, and tasty pop leanings that could find a home in the world of cinema or another recording studio for sampling.

Cjeff intends to offer his music for licensing so other artists can utilize it for whatever purpose they see fit. With that kind of coverage you could be become well known very quickly. It would be akin to being a well-known session musician except the artist would not have to be in the studio, just provide the tracks as needed.

This artist is good enough to carve out his own career without that type of arrangement. Even so, it is a very smart way to market your wares, and one never knows what kind of opportunity it could create. Hopefully people in the industry well recognize the talent of this man and the possibilities that he can afford those in the world of multi-media and music.

With exception of “It’s _ U,” the entire CD is an instrumental montage. Cjeff does not have a bad voice at all but I think staying the course with the instrumentals is the best bet, as this is where all of his strengths are.

The best track is “Return To New Orleans.” Upon my first listen to this particular track, I had no idea what the title was, as I was not paying any attention to what number track was actually playing. As I was taking in the first few minutes of the song, I looked down the track list and knew instantly what song it was. Cjeff takes the city of New Orleans and turns it into an instrumental picture with spicy jazz flavorings along with a proud tone that is befitting of the courageous people based in that area. The idea is to project all the feelings that make up this great city and convince you that you are right there. Cjeff makes this happen within the framework of the song in a convincing fashion, and in the other tracks as well. His goal of bringing a picture to life with music flows naturally on every track.

Cjeff plays bass, guitars, and keyboards, which drives other various synth parts and drum tracks. Notably, the artist writes the drum tracks from scratch. So what you hear in its entirety on this recording is the best of both worlds, the old school way of making music and the utilization of new technologies combined to make an appealing presentation spread across the canvas of a multi-hued musical canvas.

Keith Emerson Reissues

Artist: Keith Emerson
Titles: Honky, Off The Shelf, At The Movies (3 CD Set)
Genre: Rock-Soundtrack-Progressive Rock-Classical
Label
Website

Three albums from Keith Emerson are now available, Honky, his first solo album, Off The Shelf, and At The Movies (three CD set). With the exception of Honky, all were very rare recordings that have become collectable over the years.

Emerson needs no introduction; his musical legacy is long and well documented. From his days with The Nice, ELP, and a continuingly productive solo career, I think it is safe to say the man has been nothing short of prolific.

Honky is an enjoyable solo retreat. Originally released in 1985, it is remastered for superior sound. Emerson had to keep putting off this solo album because the record companies would hear his material, comment how good it was, and then ask him to record it with Carl Palmer and Greg Lake. So instead of releasing it on a date in the 70s, which would seem to make more sense, when ELP was at their peak, it kept getting pushed out, finally all the way out to 1985. The question is, was it worth the wait. The answer is yes, if you happen to be a big fan of Emerson no matter what he does, and that happens to be yours truly. This was a fun listen; he takes a little bit of all of his influences, kicks back, and lets it all fly to see what happens. The result is a mixed bag of genres, and of course much of what you would not expect from the keyboard genius. Gone are all the complex and bombastic compositions, in there place are rollicking tunes full of some basic rock with some honky-tonk, rhythm and blues, and flat out blues. This may come as a disappointment for some and a welcome change for others. Emerson has always been ultra talented and is the accomplished music chameleon. Never is that fact more apparent than on his maiden solo voyage.

Off The Shelf is exactly what Keith Emerson says it is in the forward to the liner notes, a veritable cornucopia of pot pourri within an audio montage.

This is a collection of rare tracks that took years to see the light of day, much too long for such a creative and well-known artist such as Emerson. The people that show up on the recordings are as diverse as the genres covered-from Pat Travers and Cozy Powell to the London Symphony Orchestra.

You will hear jazz, jazz-fusion, rock, blues, you name it, and Emerson leaves nothing to chance, giving the listener a broad range of his tastes. The music he came to know and love, and which served him as the most influential in musical development, is what this recording is all about, along with seeing the artist in an entirely different musical space. Its no wonder he turned out to be one of the greatest keyboard players in the world, and not just in the realm of rock music. He stands far above the rest, landing with both feet firmly implanted in the elite club with people like Rick Wakeman.

I think most people familiar with his work will find this surprisingly good and refreshing because it is the unexpected, and what makes it so enjoyable is that you will hear quality music, not a bunch of throwaway tracks that Emerson never wanted to release. It is quite the contrary.

At The Movies is perhaps the most interesting of the three sets. They were all recorded specifically for movie soundtracks in three different countries. The approach and process for music like this is entirely different from any other that Emerson recorded in his career.

The 67 tracks are broken down in three disc and sections, U.S., Italian, and Japanese movies. Each disc is a reflection of the silver screen in each respective country. Surely, this had to be a daunting task to accomplish. Dealing with three completely different cultures and entertainment worlds had to be most challenging. It came as no surprise to me that Emerson was up for the challenge and relished the opportunity to create this music.

While all of it was good, and undeniably, the most different set of tracks I have ever heard from Emerson, they all had their own flair, style, and flavor, capturing the unique soundtrack element as needed within each entertainment culture. I have no idea how the music matched up with the corresponding films but I am sure it worked out well.

The Japanese set was the most energetic and Emerson like if you will, out of all the sets. The Japanese Godzilla themes and all the other famous B movie monsters are in need of typically eerie sci-fi like sounds and who could be have done a better job than Emerson, to provide the necessary atmospheres with his keyboard and synthesizer wizardry. The U.S. and Italian sets are less prog-like and focus on the more contemporary and classical sounds that Emerson so easily coaxes from his instruments.

Three sets of music from one of the most compelling keyboard players of our time is a lot to take in, but so very enjoyable. The thing about listening to all this music is how diverse and complex it is. Emerson is simply incredible and I am convinced there is not a style of music the man cannot make his own. The proof is right here in all three titles.

Laurel Canyon-The Inside Story of Rock a

Title: Laurel Canyon-The Inside Story of Rock and Roll’s Legendary Neighborhood
Author: Michael Walker
Hardcover: 304 pages
Publisher: Faber & Faber (May 16, 2006)
Language: English
ISBN: 0571211496

So you think you know about the history of rock and roll? I would consider myself very knowledgeable with the exception of an entire block of time in the 60s that was essential in the development of music.

Laurel Canyon-The Inside Story of Rock and Roll’s Legendary Neighborhood fills in the gaps for those of us that think San Francisco and the Haight-Ashbury scene got things started. Granted the SF element was a key factor that was very important, but 396 miles down the coast there was a parallel universe taking shape that was of equal importance.

My interest in this book and the subject matter happened because of my fascination with the story of Crosby, Stills and Nash, Jackson Browne, and The Eagles. All three were a big part of this bubbling counterculture stuck in a canyon just outside one of the world centers for entertainment, Los Angeles.

Author Michael Walker does a nice job of taking you back to when it all began with an in depth look at the stars that made this place so unique and legendary. There was a lot more to Laurel Canyon than Joni Mitchell, Mama Cass Elliot, and CSN; there were the first groupies, producers, moviemakers, and many others that had their own stories to tell. The one all time rock great that was probably the most important piece of this puzzle besides Cass was Frank Zappa. Zappa and his wife hosted one of the first ever rock communes. In this day, a SWAT team would be there burning it down to ashes.

I consumed this book like a child hungry for knowledge. It provided me with an education and enlightenment into the music business, as I never had before. I find it amazing that some of the people that were part of that whole period are still around today to tell the tale. I felt as if I was right there front row and center watching it all unfold before me. Even though there were strange happenings and drugs involved there was innocence about the entire thing. Of course, that all changed once cocaine made its introduction then people started getting too weird and everything got scary, hence Laurel Canyon was never the same. The rock ‘n’ roll nirvana did not last, alas, it never does. There is so much more in between all of that, it all comes together just as a storybook should. The fact that this book is all based on true events and accounts from the people that were there making it happen and witnessing it, makes that much more enthralling of read.

I highly recommend this book for anyone that has an attraction to what goes on behind the music. Michael Walker has written the bible of LA music. From cover to cover, it is an absorbing and fascinating read, unforgettable.

Krescent 4 Hits The Mark With Red Hot EP

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Ann Arbor, MI--May 8, 2006--With years of consistent touring from Hollywood to New York City behind them Krescent 4 also known to their fans as K4, is ready to rock your world again with a new set of songs.

The new EP simply and appropriately titled Rock, is filled with their trademark chunky metal melodic guitar riffs and standout vocals. Stimy (vocals), Kris Keller (guitars), Adam Nine (bass), and Kurt Keller (drums) are the men that make up the band Krescent 4 and they hope to become household names some day like the god’s of metal Metallica. The potential is there for this to happen due to their consistent recording regimen and constant touring. When the subject of young upstart metal bands with a bright future comes up, certainly the name Krescent 4 will be top of mind to those in the know.

K4 may remind you of some bands like Soundgarden, Tool, Nickelback, and others, but make no mistake; they have carved their own path with several top-notch independent releases. Every studio recording they have released to date comes straight at you hard and heavy, filled with their angst-ridden lyrics featuring standout musicianship and crisp biting production. They would settle for nothing less and neither would their fans.

Krescent4 plans to promote their new EP Rock with typically aggressive touring to further their reputation of the hard working metal band from Michigan. Yes, K4 is as tough as a Michigan winter on the Great Lakes…they leave you stunned with their sheer authority and force. The K4 tour schedule, news, sound samples, and recordings are available on their website and you can sample and purchase their music on My Space, CD Baby and isound as well.

Cuthead-Tones

Artist: Cuthead
Title: Tones
Genre: Instrumental Rock-Jazz Fusion-Blues
Label: Independent
Website

Dominik Rüegg is Cuthead, an instrumental rock six-string slinger from Switzerland. Tones is a fine instrumental guitar rock album combining rock, jazz, and jazz-blues fusion. The sound on this CD is very similar to the legendary Eric Johnson. When listening to all the jazz-blues fusion oriented compositions I began to think that either this album was a dedication to EJ or Rüegg simply felt strongly influenced by his work. The title is the same as EJ’s first studio album released in 1986, and that really makes you wonder. In the end does it matter or is it relevant? Well, not really, because as it turns out the artist was unaware of Johnson and never heard any of his music, so there you go, pondering on that is a waste of time. The result regardless of anybody’s opinion on influences is that Tones is a solid album from a talented guitar player.

Cuthead is up for the task and pulls out 10 tracks from his bag of tricks and its well worth listening to a few times. A few spins is appropriate just to let it all sink in. And besides that, I really enjoyed it all. “Cockroachrun” and “Inspot” are both flat out juiced up rockers, which is a step away from the primary sound and atmosphere he creates on this CD. Those two tracks show how the artist can be an individual without prompting you to make any comparisons to other artists, the other tracks I am afraid that the comments are going to come one way or another, but that could be a good thing too. I love this kind of music-I never get my fill, and if someone makes me think of another favorite artist, then there is a victory for the individual providing the music and me, the listener. This is exactly what happened while listening to this CD. From my perspective, it is all good.

The encapsulation or high point of this entire effort, are the tracks “Tones” and “Tones II.” The first serves as an intro, with some nice acoustic guitar, letting us know Rüegg can play beautifully and with taste besides knocking your sox off with some multicolored fusion licks or a rocker. Then the second part is the Cuthead trademark sound and the overall atmosphere that prevails on this album. I like the fretwork on this track, his takes things in different directions with varying degrees of tempos and intensity.

This is a very solid release and it displays a talented man beautifully. One never knows what direction an artist with such talents will go the next time they get in the studio to record. In the meantime, check this guy out.

Chicago XXX

Artist: Chicago
Title: XXX
Genre: Rock-Pop-Jazz
Label: Rhino
Website

Chicago is the product of consistency and keeping key core members in the band for the last 37 years. XXX is their 30th studio recording and a total demonstration of their wherewithal and greatness as a thriving unit. I am the first to say I enjoyed their older material, the first five albums where incredibly good. Over the years, they have changed members and their style but what you hear is indisputably Chicago. The reasons for their success are many and probably the most important factor that contributes to that ongoing success is that they have managed to keep that base sound intact. The all-important horns are always there and the leadership of long time members like Robert Lamm, Walt Parazaider, James Pankow, Lee Loughnane, and Bill Champlin, serve as the guiding light of this modern day musical marvel. The vocals have sounded pretty much the same since Peter Cetera was at the helm. The have managed to find clones of his vocal style, thus making any of the changes seamless and smooth to the music buying public. To say they have been a commercial success is an understatement.

There are 13 tracks on this CD and they all have the potential to be a hit single…no surprise there. Their output is comparative to The Beatles; every time they put an album out, they fill it with great and memorable songs. I cannot think of one band that is still actively recording that can do that. That is what makes Chicago so special. The first time I heard the album I thought it was a bit too pop oriented for my liking, and then as I gave it successive spins it gradually grew on me. The realization that this band had done it again hit me square between the eyes. The driving pop rhythms of love and loss are here, the great rhythm section, horns, fantastic vocals-all in place lined up like a well-practiced platoon with its marching orders. This recording is one that all the band members should be proud to add to the Chicago legacy.

The tracks that had me singing in no time were “King of Might Have Been,” “Caroline,” and the made for hit single “90 Degrees and Freezing.” This is a sure bet to be a chart topper, its archetypal Chicago and it reminded of the band in their prime. Sure, I still like the risqué progressive Chicago that played those immortal dates at Carnegie Hall, but this version of the band is very good and as I said before, who else is making music like this? This is quality music, the lyrics are not offensive or negative, nor do they promote violence or drug abuse, know how much trash is out there today selling by the truckload that offers all of that?...A little too much as far as I am concerned. The jazz purists will complain as usual and the old time fans may say it has too much syrupy pop for their gullets, but you know what? Its one of the best albums I have heard this year and the musicianship is simply outstanding. Listen to it a few times, I guarantee you will be hooked, even if you do not like it the first time just like me. Yes, it is very much mainstream and easy listening but is so very good!

Latent Anxiety-Perception

Artist: Latent Anxiety
Title: Perception
Genre: Rock-Electronica
Label: Delvian Records
Website

IIja Rosendahl is an interesting character. This creative German musician wrote and recorded an entire album alone. Rosendahl’s alter ego is Latent Anxiety and his new CD Perception is a marvelous achievement considering that he put it together in his home studio with simple equipment. He then mastered it for this CD. He explained to me his artistic and technical development, so this gave me a greater appreciation for what he accomplished with the project.

The first thing that got my attention was that I found some commonality with his voice, he reminded me of one of my favorite bands Be Bop Deluxe, more specifically Bill Nelson, the lead guitar player and vocalist. The music however is not very similar, some guitar parts are but overall this is a singular statement from a talented individual. Rosendahl plays guitar very well and his voice is excellent, in fact his ability to change his vocal style and adapt to each song’s pace is a strong quality. I loved his guitar playing on this recording, he rocks, and the combination of electronica melded in the mix makes for a rockin’ chill out that is a nice change of pace from the norm.

Each track stands on its own and I found value in every one I heard on this CD, particularly with “Cold As Ice” and “Fading Away,” which serve as superb representations of his style, powerful guitar playing, and vocal prowess. The most interesting thing about this music is its versatility and sturdy cross over ability. Young and old music listeners alike will find something to enjoy here. This CD will continually grow on you with each subsequent listen. As I absorbed it for the fourth time, I found it more appealing and realized the great talent that this artist is. The marketability of this music is obvious to me and it has a broad area it could cover. I can see youngsters downloading tracks from this album veraciously, and I envision it as a possible candidate for a soundtrack a thrill seeker type of motion picture. It's exciting and vibrant music, it sounds modern, with a chilling techno edge, yet it rocks enough to keep your blood pumping. I like all the aspects that this CD offers. Why else would I be listening to it repeatedly?

This is definitely worth checking out if you enjoy rock, electronica, or prog-rock; I promise you that there will be aspects of this recording you will really enjoy.

Wolf Tracks: The Best of Los Lobos

Artist: Los Lobos
Title:Wolf Tracks: The Best of Los Lobos
Genre: Rock-Americana-Roots
Label: Rhino
E-Card
Website

Los Lobos is an American institution, whether you realize that or not is another matter. They are not rock superstars although they are one of the greatest ethnic rock units on the planet and have received rave reviews since their debut in 1983. They are still under the radar comparatively speaking when you compare them to other major acts. I have always appreciated this great band but it is a shame that most people know them from their hits “La Bamba” and “Come On, Let’s Go.” There is so much more to this band than a few hit singles. Their body of work is vast and quite impressive. The eclectic music that is contained in their albums is enough to fill a lifetime for most performers. Los Lobos span the roots of everything that is music past and present-from blues, rock, Latino, world and more. This wolf knows how to survive. My personal favorite album is Kiko, which is an underrated classic in my estimation.

Wolf Tracks: The Best of Los Lobos is the first single CD that gathers the best of Los Lobos on one CD. They lost some of the steam they had in the 80’s going into the 90s but I think they are making their way back into a new listener’s realm and their devoted followers, like yours truly, remain steadfast and true. I think of Dave Alvin and the Blasters at times when I hear their earlier work and when they cut loose with one their traditional Mexican tunes I can say that my interest and love for their sound never sways, in fact their uniqueness and perspective remain as fresh and invigorating as it always has for this listener. The 20 tracks on this CD effectively sum up their career, for one CD that is. The previously unreleased “Border Town Girl” makes it debut to sweeten the pie.

Yes Los Angeles is proud of their native sons, may they continue to bring joy to the masses through their wonderful music that has the ability to touch hearts around the globe. There are not many bands that can play music like Los Lobos and maintain a following and acceptance like the one they have. If you are a long time fan or need a good place to start, this CD would be a good choice. Any way you look at it you cannot loose with music that has no boundaries, its all hear on this CD for your discovery or rediscovery, whatever the case may be. Viva! Los Lobos!

The Tomorrow Show With Tom Snyder-Punk &

Title: The Tomorrow Show With Tom Snyder-Punk & New Wave
Format: DVD
Genre: Punk-New Wave-Rock
Label: Shout Factory
Official Product Link

I knew that this would be a fascinating DVD to watch. The Tomorrow Show With Tom Snyder-Punk & New Wave is a snap shot of a new decade in music and a precursor of what was to come transitioning from the late 70’s to the early 80s.

I skipped over the other non-music guests to get to meat of this two DVD set, there will be time later on to view everything this package has to offer. I rarely watched the Tomorrow Show when it was on the air but I found out how compelling it could be for its time. Snyder was a very tough interviewer and told it like it was.

When he was interviewing John Lydon (formerly Johnny Rotten of the Sex Pistols) and his partner in PIL, I felt as frustrated as Snyder (Snyder voiced his disdain and was visibly upset) during the course of the interview. Lydon was antagonistic, obnoxious, just a miserable little prick really, I wanted so much to punch him in the face. That is really the only segment I did not enjoy. The roundtable session with Kim Fowley, who is very intelligent and knowledgeable regarding the music industry, and the legendary promoter Bill Graham, critic Robert Hiburn, performers Joan Jett, who seemed like a shy little girl and the dynamic Paul Weller of The Jam, joined the spirited conversation. I found it very stimulating and enjoyed all the different point of views offered.

Elvis Costello was somewhat boring but Iggy Pop most certainly made up for that. Iggy is all energy and he looked pretty down and dirty in the street with his missing front tooth. I could never figure out why he presented himself this way, at least he could have fixed that front tooth before going on network TV, oh well, its punk rock baby and Iggy was all about the take me or leave attitude, it was WYSIWYG 100% of the time. Wendy O and the Plasmatics, with their loud and brash punk music and the sexy lead singer prancing around in revealing clothing and screaming in such a way you could hardly understand her, was lets say different. They added a little theatrics and awe to the show by torching and blowing up a beautiful car right on stage! I did not enjoy their music but I did think the interview with Wendy was good. Patti Smith was very strange, totally out there, which came as no surprise really. The Jam gave Tom a good interview and the best part of the entire package was the interview with the Ramones, although Snyder was not on hand, it was a great to see all of the Ramones together playing and talking it up.

The live footage of all of these bands is priceless, well worth the package; the interviews are the icing on the cake.

Michael Barclay-Blue Eyed Blues

Artist: Michael Barclay
Title: Blue Eyed Blues
Genre: Blues-Rock
Label: Chatterbox Records
Website
CD Baby Link

Michael Barclay brings his Blue Eyed Blues to the table this year. He plays some mean guitar licks and sounds like the prototypical bluesman, and at times he is so expressive and heavy he sounds like the old black blues players.

Barclay offers up 16 solid tracks of spicy and red-hot blues-rock, the kind that starts a fire that never goes out. I mean this does not let up for second on the entire recording.

The album has a great kickoff song that typifies the blues; “Give It To Me Straight” sings the blues about a lover gone astray. Then “A Diary of the Blues (All the Prayin' in the World)” is another sad but funny rocker, as the man singing, who happens to be Barclay (this is autobiographical by the way), laments about his wife divorcing him and his girlfriend leaving town. Sounds like the blues came pouring down on him in this instance because of his own doing, but there is always a guitar to pick up and a saloon around the corner to make it all go away, yes sir this is da blues. “Stinky” and “NY Blues” are great instrumental tracks that give you an opportunity to appreciate the well-honed chops of everyone in the band, not to take away their equal expertise on the vocal tracks of course. “NY Blues,” which features Barclay playing all the instruments on the track, is a slow cooker, with some funky up front bass and stinging guitar licks; it is surely one of the best cuts on the album but far too short-lived. There is something special about an all-instrumental number; it allows you to focus in on the music without having to think about anything else. These are just a few highlights of a CD jam-packed with them.

Barclay’s guitar dominates this album, along with his vocals, organ, horns, and electric piano playing; however, I must tip my hat to the rest of the contributors on this outstanding album, which is quite a cast of characters, giving the entire project heaps of diversity and depth. Notably, the addition of an amazing horn section consisting of Roger Volz, Al Garth, Dale Gutridge, and of course Barclay, that adds some meat and potatoes to the mix.

Barclay has been around the block and back and his resume speaks very highly of his previous work. He learned production in the Electric Lady Land Studio right alongside the legendary Eddie Kramer and has played with the likes Norton Buffalo, Nick Gravenites, and Merle Saunders, to name a few of the long list of well known artists. This man is a blues veteran through and through and Blue Eyed Blues is a true test of his blues pedigree.

Lareau-Changes

Artist: Lareau
Title: Changes
Genre: Rock-Pop
Label: Rust Records
Website

Larry Lareau may have a band named after him because he is the focal point, but the people behind him are as equally important. What would he sing to without them? Nobody knows better than Lareau how important the musicians are. Lareau’s vocals have an across-the-board contemporary rock sound, an infectious temperate rhythm that invites you inside the song.

Tracks like “Feelin’ It” say it all. You can feel the music every step of the way. Even though Lareau is singing about a relationship and the feelings behind the situation or circumstance, you cannot help process all of those feelings and thoughts pushed through the music. It’s a formula that works very well and the way his vocals follow the music is a thing of beauty, watching it all unfold before your ears is a sweet thing.

There are 12 tracks on this CD, and each is a rock-pop gem in its own right, peppered with pop polish just enough to make it all radio friendly for a wide audience. This is pleasing easy listening music with simple subject matter. It is all totally understandable and listenable, which is not a common thing these days unfortunately so it was not hard to enjoy.

Larry Lareau and company offer something that is indeed rare and enjoyable-sincerity, good music and musicians that play it above average, and most importantly, talented vocals to match the music.

Lareau has influences from Dave Matthews to Rob Thomas, albeit lighter and softer. That is not a bad pair of vocalists to be compared to should I say so myself. If rock-pop is your cup of tea then come drink from the cup, sip the golden nectar of the music gods courtesy of Lareau.

Syd Barrett- Under Review (Limited Colle

Artist: Syd Barrett
Title: Under Review (Limited Collector’s Edition)
Format: DVD
Genre: Progressive Rock
Label: Chrome Dreams
Website

I had a history lesson on Pink Floyd and Syd Barrett through watching this DVD. This is one problem however, is any of what I absorbed true? This is an independent critical review and any interviews, opinions and or information provided on this DVD, is not authorized by Syd Barrret, his family, or members of Pink Floyd. Well, there is your typical CYA disclaimer before we even get started eh? It is the limited collector’s edition, so that may entice you a bit anyway.

Well that may sound a bit discouraging but fear not, this DVD is very enjoyable with some rare footage of Barrett performing and interesting tidbits of information nevertheless. Whether what I found out about Barrett and Pink Floyd is based on fact or not really does not matter to me at this point. It made me realize how important he was to Pink Floyd, well without him there would not have been a band, period. I knew he was a key component in getting the band off the ground in the late 60s but this DVD just magnified that importance and meaning tenfold.

I am skeptical and doubtful that Barrett was what the media portrayed him as, the genius gone mad. He may have left the limelight simply because he wanted to be alone and had no desire to play the game any longer and there is nothing wrong with that. He was brilliant; there is no question of that. I have to wonder what the true story is behind this enigma called Syd Barrett.

I was a bit discouraged that there was no booklet with the DVD or a track listing, quite unusual; actually, it is not unusual to have a booklet missing with a promo copy, but no track listing? It did come with a slipcover though. I guess the entire package was a 50/50 hit or miss any way you look at it. Even so, I did get a lot of enjoyment out of it and that is the main objective now isn’t it?

Lee Nysted-Shoot From The Hip

Artist: Lee Nysted
Title: Shoot From The Hip
Genre: Rock-Jazz Rock Fusion
Label: Nysted Music
Website

Lee Nysted takes music and words, does it all his way, and calls his new album Shoot From The Hip. That expression refers to a person that tells it like it is and Nysted does that on all 12 tracks. Having traversed his own spiritual path over the years, awakening on the other side a new man, he speaks from his heart and lets his guitar do a lot of the talking with a combination of potent rock and jazz-rock fusion.

The opening track “The Semantical Consort” is a real rocker, an obvious choice for an album opener and the title track is another earth shaker, it features some nice guitar licks that puts Nysted in a good light as a real craftsman with the six-string. “Fire In The Hole” is a nice jazz-rock fusion track. The combination of the two genres that play off each other is like the yin and yang of music at work. “All God’s Children” is a great message with some of the best guitar work on the album.

The reason I can appreciate this album so much is the two-fold purpose it serves. The music lets you cut loose emotionally and the words get to the heart of the matter with a beeline right to your soul. So not only did the music touch me, it was Nysted’s heartfelt message, and one I could understand perfectly. I know from whence he came. In the track “Windows” he says “I know hope, and I know you,” he is talking about the spirit in the sky, the higher power, God, whatever you choose to call it, a power greater than mankind, whatever works for you. “I Surrender” is the most prolific song and it’s a statement from a man that changed his life forever by making one decision, giving up the substances that took precedence over everything and turning it over to someone or something more capable of handling it. This may be too heavy for some of you that cannot relate but I had to express all of this because that is what this music revolves around. It is easy enough to apply any of it to your own life even though you may have walked a different path than Lee Nysted.

If you look at the cover you see two very colorful birds in flight, which Nysted refers to in the music, the message is very clear, free your soul and you can fly. It is apparent the artist let his hair down on this impressive release. The sound and production are excellent and so is the musicianship. Whether or not you can relate to the lyrics, although it is a bonus if you can, the music will set you free.

Sytek & Davies-From The Shadow Of Th

Artist: Sytek & Davies
Title: From The Shadow Of The Citadel
Genre: Progressive Rock-Folk
Label: Llama Mama Records
Website
CD Baby

Jane Sytek and Rick Davies find musical compatibility on From The Shadow Of The Citadel. The couple also finds the simple beauty and colorful patterns within the music on the twelve tracks of progressive folk rock offered on their new release.

This music has a 60s folk feel and definite Celtic influence similar to Jethro Tull or Blackmore’s Night. Sytek and Davies have the charm of a Peter, Paul, and Mary, minus one Peter or Paul of course; nevertheless, their positive spirit and engaging lyrics reminded me of wonderful songs that spin a magical tale. They are serious musicians with some great music to offer. It is not soft pop we are talking about here, although it does have its pop elements, the progressive folk weighs in heavily. The use of woodwinds, flutes, acoustic guitars, and chimes give the feeling of warmth and mysticism throughout this recording.

Jane Sytek has a lovely voice and indeed sounds like a fair maiden transported from medieval times and her partner Rick Davies has the same approach and style, he is soft yet convincing, and delightfully so with his vocals and interplay with Sytek and the music. What both musicians accomplish with instruments they also uncover with their voices. The tapestries of rich layered sounds bring you right into their world. If this does not happen to you after the first track you are hopeless, your imagination has somehow escaped you and the child within is dead. I guess I cannot be any blunter than that.

This was such a great listen and I enjoyed it so much that it seemed it was a matter of minutes before it was over. Each track seamlessly blends into the other creating a storybook set to music. It really is magical what they pull off on this CD. Besides being very good at what they do with the prog-folk style I think they should consider doing a movie soundtrack or something along the lines of a children’s book with a soundtrack to accompany the story. I can hear them doing an all time classic like “Puff The Magic Dragon.” I do not mean this as a detriment at all by any means nor am I taking away from this marvelous effort, I am pointing out the fact that this couple is quite talented and could take their craft in many directions.

Sytek & Davies take a magic sword made of gold and cut a hole into thin air, creating a time portal that transports you back into a magic kingdom where fairies, nymphs, sprites, and leprechauns frolic about. This music engages your imagination and for me that is what great music is supposed to do-a job well done indeed.

Arden Kaywin-Quarter Life Crisis

Artist: Arden Kaywin
Title: Quarter Life Crisis
Genre: Pop-Rock
Label: Independent
Website

Arden Kaywin is going through a Quarter Life Crisis and she wants to share it with you through her music. What is most impressive about this independent release is that Kaywin penned all of tracks herself. Even major releases do not include all original songs at times so she is already ahead of the curve. The twenty-something post college crowd should find common ground with this woman’s music and message.

Although all of her songs have an upbeat atmosphere, the lyrics are not always as bubbly. Kaywin explores her feelings and her cold-hearted world with a new set of eyes. Lost loves and the need to be with someone that returns her love is all she is looking for…but it seems so elusive.

The musicianship and production are first rate on this recording and those important factors make Arden’s voice sparkle and shine in every track. The only thing that I noticed were there could have been some improvement was the inflection and mood of her voice. For the most part, it stays the same throughout the CD regardless of what the subject matter is. Being that this project is such an emotional statement, I think there should be a noticeable amount of changing inflection in every track; however, it does not vary too much.

Those observations aside, this was an enjoyable release with enough vibrancy and energy to keep you interested from start to finish. If Arden Kaywin finds a way of wearing her heart on her sleeve when she sings a song she is going to be a force to be reckoned with. She could have a hit that is a real chart climber. Just knowing you have the foundation to achieve greatness should be motivation enough to get right back in the studio for any artist. So start recording that next album Arden, you have what it takes, just put more of what you are feeling into your vocalizations and your listeners will be putty in your hands.

Proto-Kaw-The Wait Of Glory

Artist: Proto-Kaw
Title: The Wait Of Glory
Genre: Progressive Rock-Jazz Rock Fusion
Label: Inside Out
Website

In 2004, Kerry Livgren rejoined his old friend’s in his pre-Kansas band Proto-Kaw. They took a roll of the dice with Before Became After</I?, as Livgren says, and the response was incredible. In 2002 they dug in the archives and released Early Recordings From Kansas 1971-1973, which was Proto-Kaw, and that is what started the ball rolling. Now its two years later and they have returned triumphantly with yet another masterpiece called The Wait Of Glory.

I have been spinning this disc for two weeks solid now, listening for different nuances that I did not catch from the previous listen. It works that way with the interesting complex musical structures that Proto-Kaw offers. While I loved Before Became After, I think this album shows more maturity and cohesiveness as a unit. Although the first album was an experiment of sorts, it worked very well and I think this album is one-step better, although I could not imagine that prior to hearing this.

Livgren is one intense writer; he is a Christian on a mission to spread his word through some of the most intriguing and attention-grabbing music made today. This is as good as or better than anything that he did with Kansas. He writes about the excesses of man, his demise, and the dangers of the proliferation of his soul. It could be very dark music but it is not as each track has plenty of light and hope waiting on the other side. As they say, there are two sides to every story.

The emotional opening track “Nevermore” suggest that there is no more need to cry or die, it is what the Great Spirit has in store for us if we live right and seek the light. Lynn Meredith is a fantastic vocalist; he takes Livgren’s lyrics and makes them come alive, although I cannot help but hear Steve Walsh at times, especially on “Old Number,” I swear I heard Steve chime in with some background vocals, and on “Melicus Gladiator” he sounds very similar to Walsh as well. Meredith does a good job carving out his own territory as a vocalist and sounds original for a majority of the album, but just as on the first album, I cannot help but make that comparison and it is of course a high-level compliment from my viewpoint. The most moving and rich track for my listening was “When the Rains Come,” the lyrics really touched my soul. Lines like “The rain will fall with life,” give you hope and optimism for a better world.

Kerry Livgren is the consummate artist articulating his deepest thoughts and beliefs through his music, and there are few as prolific anywhere in the world. He could not have aligned himself with a better group of musicians. Some of the changes in the compositions you hear will make your head spin; take “Osvaldo's Groceries” for instance, which is the shortest running track on the album clocking in at just over 3 minutes. The band changes tempo at least 10 times during the course of the composition. This band’s modus operandi is to keep you on your toes and listening for changes while intently focused on their lyrics. It requires deep introspection and multi-tasking listening abilities-there is no question about that.

I will say it now; this will easily be one of the top prog-rock albums of 2006. As Before Became After will go down as one of the prog-rock classics, The Wait Of Glory will make Proto-Kaw legends in their own time. This is not to be missed, another perfect 10.

Genre: Rock-Blues
Label: Mobile Fidelity
Website

If I had a list with my 100 all time recordings, They Only Come Out At Night would be on it, mainly for two songs, “Frankenstein” and “Free Ride.” Although when you sit and listen to the album you will find a lot of joy in every track, there really is not one throwaway to be found.

When I found out Mobile Fidelity was reissuing this in SACD format I wanted it badly. I anticipated a clear and crisp reproduction of the original master. While this is usually the case when I hear the wonderful discs that they produce, I was a little disappointed that the sound was not what I expected. I had to keep turning up the volume to see if I just was not playing it loud enough. I stood in the center of the room then walked to all of my speakers and listened, I heard some separation with that process, and then I stood back in the middle of the room and noticed there was hardly anything coming from my subwoofer, which normally is very effective. What I determined rather quickly was that the bottom end was nearly non-existent. Its there, but it lingers faintly in the background. If this one piece of the recording were coming through strongly as it usually does on MF product, this disc would be a knockout.

Regardless of my disappointment in the overall sound it does not mean I did not enjoy this SACD, I really did, I just thought it could have been better with a fuller richer sound. This is classic album and it was Edgar Winter and his band in their prime. I think the next album Shock Treatment was outstanding as well; it deserves consideration for the Mobile Fidelity treatment.

“Undercover Man” and “Rock 'N' Roll Boogie Woogie Blues” were steeped heavily in the blues and proved repeatedly why Winter always reached back to the blues as a starting point and or as a jumping off point in a composition. Besides the most memorable hit singles like “Free Ride” and “Frankenstein,” there was a lot more meat and potatoes for digestion that listeners could enjoy, particularly the music lovers that wanted more than just the hits. Of course, that is what albums were for to begin with, but somehow that meaning gets lost when people buy music for a few popular tunes.

Rick Derringer’s role on this album should not be understated. His contributions as a producer and guest musician were a key to its success, obviously enough to make him a full time member on the next release. Ronnie Montrose was an incredible guitarist and would go on to greatness a few years later as a solo artist. Looking back now, what Winter had was the beginnings of a super group.

Everything else aside, if you love rock music, this great album belongs in your collection.

Ian Anderson Plays The Orchestral Jethro

Artist: Ian Anderson and the Neue Philharmonic Frankfurt
Title: Ian Anderson Plays The Orchestral Jethro Tull
Format: DVD/2 CD Set
Genre: Rock-Classical-Progressive
Label: Benz Street
Website

Ian Anderson Plays The Orchestral Jethro Tull with the Neue Philharmonic Frankfurt conducted by John O’ Hara is real treat if you are a fan of classical music meets rock and of Jethro Tull and Anderson’s solo work. For me it all applies, I look at experiences like this as something new and different to enjoy. It is nothing new obviously; it’s just a real turn of the tables watching Ian on stage with a full orchestra doing all the familiar JT tracks with an entirely different twist.

I saw Jethro Tull a few years ago play with an orchestra live and it was a disappointment; however, I enjoyed this much more. I think the orchestra was much better and Ian outside the realm of familiarity (with band members) was like a bird taking flight, taking old standards and breathing the air of new life into them by venturing down unknown paths.

Ian is the first to admit he cannot sing and his voice has not weathered all that well, even so, the presentation he makes is still excellent, and he remains one of the premiere flute players in the world.

He interestingly enough starts off the concert with a rousing version of “Eurology” from his solo album Rupi’s Dance (2003), even though the title indicates that its Jethro Tull music. As it turns out, it was a great way to start the proceedings. I loved the song live and cannot seem to get it out of my head when I hear it. “Aqualung” was the most enjoyable track by far though. Anderson mentions before the song starts, without announcing the title, that many folks do not recognize the song until its well into the first few minutes, I caught on about 30 seconds into it, what can I say? I am total JT freak. It is a marvelous interpretation of the song and five times better than the one I saw live, once again due to the adventurous reorganization of the composition and the top notch orchestra complementing Ian’s flute became a key factor in making this version such a great success. “Skating Away on the Thin Ice of the New Day” and “Locomotive Breath” were highlights from my viewpoint as well. Florian Opahle is not Martin Barre but the youngster does an exceptional job on both acoustic and electric guitar. The DVD tracks are sequenced in the same order as the double CD with the exception of some interviews with Ian that are very revealing and interesting, and the in between song conversations are cut out of the CD version.

In the end when I was through watching and listening, I felt that I could not have enjoyed the entire show more. I wish that I could have been there to see it myself, although good DVDs do give you one of the best seats in the house. I swore after the first experience that it would be the last; this restored my faith and reopened my mind to the possibilities of exploring a live event like this again if it ever comes to town, on that rare evening in the middle of the summer.

Live 8-July 2nd 2005 DVD

Artist: Various
Title: Live 8-July 2nd 2005
Genre: Rock-Pop
Format: 4 DVD Set
Label: Capitol
Website

Bob Geldof should be in politics. His accomplishments outside of music rival that of world leaders and Nobel Peace prizewinners. The fact he was able to get Pink Floyd back together for Live Aid part 2 says a lot about his persuasiveness and negotiating skills. Live 8-July 2nd 2005 is symbolic of eight world leaders coming together to make a difference in the world’s plight of hunger. Have they made a difference? I think not. Events like this have done more for awareness of hunger and funneling in cash flow than the superpowers of the world. Gathering the world together as one unit to put together their hands for a few days is not an easy task, but its all worth it and thousands had the opportunity to enjoy some of the best bands on the planet perform live while their money for the price of admission went towards those who are less fortunate. This was all certainly for a good cause and the greater good of mankind.

It took me several days to navigate my way through the four DVDs and I had mixed feelings about the performances. The only member of the Who that seems to have that youthful energy left is Pete Townsend, considering the other two founding members are now gone, its now up to two of them to carry the torch, unfortunately it looks like just one is carrying on. Roger Daltrey sounded flat and uninspired and he obviously has lost a lot in the vocal department. Watching Pink Floyd reunite is worth the price of admission alone. It was akin to the now famous Eagles statement, “We will get back together when hell freezes over” but it finally happened any way. Perhaps this will lead to something else…we can only hope. Many of the bands I had never heard of actually. This is due to my living outside the box musically, my age, and covering reissues on regular basis for the majors, plus the fact that I am not plugged into radio or the latest hot major label acts. I live in an indie world most of the time by choice. I saw enough of the newer acts to know that most of them did not do a thing for me so I just moved on to the next act with a click. All of that aside, this was a worthwhile experience and worth checking out.

I saw this DVD set at Coconuts on sale for $35.00, now that is a steal for all the entertainment you get not to mention the outright historical value of what happened in this short span of time back in July. This is much more than a stocking stuffer for your resident music fan, its history, it is prolific in a worldly sense of the word, and above all, the statement made on this great day hopefully opened some ears and eyes to the horrid truth of world hunger in a day and age when it is not necessary.

Blameshift-Drop Down

Artist: Blameshift
Title: Drop Down
Genre: Metal-Punk-Rock
Label: Can’t Stop Records
Website

Blameshift is hitting the ground running and already their killer new album Drop Down is in the Top 10 FYE Indie Charts. I like to call music like this beautiful noise, because it creates all sorts if imagery, both sides of the coin from the book of life if you will.

This is definitely not music for the faint of heart; it snarls, spits, then scratches and claws its way into your soul. Like it or not, it is effective and it grabs you. What made this entire CD so enjoyable for me was the give and take of Tim Barbour’s and Jenny Mann’s vocals, playing off each other as a tag team rock ‘n’ roll machine. This is all built on the chunky, heavy-duty guitar riffs of Dan Leto and some powerhouse bass (now played by Dave Kaplan, who joined the band after the album was recorded). James Miller holds up the bottom end with some vicious skin pounding, which makes for a non-stop pure raw energy that really digs in and gets some traction. Let me just say that this is not a leisurely walk in the park. It is more like walking through a dark back alley in the city wondering what is going to pop out from around a corner; the anticipation and excitement never lets up. If you like that living-on-the-edge excitement, this CD could provide that feeling and atmosphere easily.

So what do you like? If it’s metal, punk, rock, even some rap thrown in here and there, and if you happen to like it all, Blameshift is your ticket to a listening orgasm. The opening and title cut starts off with a voice saying “Honey I got news for you…” then a jagged edged guitar and thumping bass comes in as Jenny Mann starts singing in her sweet sexy voice. Every track has tremendous energy showing different facets and evolutions of the band. “From Here On In” features a rip tide of instruments all at once, and it shows how the band can rock straight out and slow down and provide some tasteful licks, particularly on guitar. These are just two examples of an ongoing force of authority and vigor that prevails throughout this album. This band has a mass appeal that will more than likely find them national recognition in a short period.

Bouillabaisse-The Best Of Fish

Artist: Fish
Title: Bouillabaisse-The Best Of Fish
Genre: Progressive Rock
Label: Snapper Music
Website

The day I heard Raingods With Zippos I was hooked on the music of Fish. It goes without saying how important his contributions to Marillion were, he helped to put them on the map in the 80’s. I think Fish has really blossomed since leaving the limitations of a band and the collaborative processes involved, he is much better left to his own devices as his very successful solo career has proven through several extremely distinctive albums.

Bouillabaisse-The Best Of Fish does very well in outlining his solo career by breaking down one disc into the ballads and the second into his rockers. The definition of Bouillabaisse is-A combination of various different, often incongruous elements: a bouillabaisse of special interests. I do not think there is a better way to describe what you will hear on this best of collection (so far).

There are several reasons why I enjoy Fish and this particular set. First, you can understand the man when he sings, he has lyrics that for the most part make sense and have oodles of emotion and meaning, and he always manages to get one killer band to back him. I think most people familiar with Fish place high expectations on anything he releases-I know I certainly do. I grab his material without listening to any samples, and I just know it will be good. He has not disappointed me yet.

I found this two-disc set very satisfying in that it covers all the facets of Fish, all the elements that make him tick, the hopeless romantic, the cynical angry man dealing with the tough realities of life, everything that the man is. He is not afraid to let us know what goes on inside his head and what stirs in his soul. For all of these reasons I love the music of Fish and Bouillabaisse most certainly covered the highlights of his solo career to date.

Copperhead-Live & Lost

Artist: Copperhead
Title: Live & Lost
Genre: Rock
Label: Eastwinds Records
Website

Copperhead was one of last hard-edged southern rock bands to leave its mark. They remain a popular band and people still want to hear their music. Why wouldn’t you want to listen to this great music? Its totally kick ass free spirited rock with a southern flair and energy to spare.

Live & Lost is a combination of live recordings, actually a live EP they never finished when the band was under contract with Polygram early in their career, and studio cuts that never saw the light of day. Well thanks to vocalist/lead guitar man Neil Carswell, this great music has been unearthed and released for all of the old faithful, and surely an entirely new legion of fans everywhere. They just won over another fan right here.

The power and energy never lets up once on this CD and that is one of the main reasons I love it so much. Firstly, I have always loved southern rock like Skynrd, Molly Hatchet, Blackfoot, all the bands that made a name for themselves during the peak years of the 70s and early 80s. Well, Cooperhead happened after the fact; they started in 1986 and toured like maniacs for five years- thus the reference to the last of the great southern rock bands. Touring always pays off, it is the best form of PR you could possible hope for.

The tracks that knocked my socks off were “Whiskey Mama,” “Raging Fire,” and “Voices In The Night.” Swept away by this music, I felt compelled to tell Neil Carswell how I felt. When I got to the ninth track, I was ready to burst, so I got on the phone to speak to Neil. He proceeded to give me the short version of the Copperhead legacy. There were many well-known people involved in this album besides the original lineup (see additional personnel).

This CD is a real gem; there is not one dinger on it. Every track is rockin’ hard with incredibly authoritative and cutting guitar leads courtesy of Carswell and band mate Jon Byrd. Carswell’s voice is perfect for this music, he is right out front, in command of the floor, rising above the screaming guitars and potent rhythm section of Tony Hawkins (bass) and Eric Suttlemyre (drums). In addition to that barrage of your senses, the superb keyboard work of Brad Durden gives it all that extra flavor and depth to complete the full meaty sound, complimenting Carswell’s voice on hard driving tracks like “Hard Living” and the moodier cuts with tasteful guitar licks like “Voices In The Night.” This band had one hell of a power packed punch and that makes Live & Lost a newly found and treasured piece of rock history worth having.

Saga-The Chapters Live

Artist: Saga
Title: The Chapters Live
Genre: Progressive Rock
Label: Inside Out
Website

Saga fans will be in their glory now, the definitive moment has arrived in a live set. The Chapters Live is available now on this two CD set. All sixteen chapters that came together over several years for the band, the words and music that comprised eight albums of music that started in 1978, is here, captured live, all of it for the first time. Think about it, what prog-rock album do you know of took 28 years to reach its fruition? This is it, your looking at it.

I could not be more impressed with this set. The 36-page booklet takes you through all the lyrics and the live music is fresh and vital. Simply put, it does not get much better than this, well…if it was in a DVD-A format with 5.1 surround sound, now that would be amazing. Just wait, I am sure it is coming right around the corner. Speaking of DVDs…the band just recorded their classic album Worlds Apart on 12/8 for DVD recently so watch for that, it is sure to be a keeper. In early 2006, a new studio album is due as well. So the Saga continues, no pun intended.

I was very pleased with this set, the sound is good, the band is as tight as they have ever been, sounding inspired and crisp every step of the way. For a live recording, this is very good, I cannot complain about the overall sonics and presentation. I love this music and I always have. Saga is unique, an entity that is beyond compare. Let’s face it, nobody sounds like them, and they have managed to maintain their popularity even though the band broke up at one point during their career. There is no doubt with this release, a new studio album released this year titled Network, which by the way some folks say is their best in 20 years, they are making some waves. So this band’s career is entering a new phase, a renaissance if you will, as fans old and new take hold and embrace their recorded output-in turn prog-rock continues to gain more respect and popularity.

The Chapters Live is an absolute must, I say no more. If you are into prog-rock and love this band as I do, this is a no brainer.

Judas Priest-Rising In The East

Artist: Judas Priest
Title: Rising In The East
Format: 5.1 Surround Sound DVD
Genre: Metal
Label: Rhino
Website

If you think for a second Judas Priest has lost anything over the years, well, Youve Got Another Thing Coming. I saw this band for the first time in July of this year, and they blew me away with one incredible performance. Their sheer power as a band and Rob Halfords unbelievable vocals were something special to witness. Little did I know that the same performance I saw was going to come out on DVD?

Rising In The East is were else? The legendary venue of Budokan. The quality of this video is stunning and the sound is just as good. It comes at you full force, pounding through your speakers in glorious clear and crisp 5.1 Surround Sound. This is a fitting tribute to the power of the Priest live. They are the only band out there right now making this kind of metal music, which not only makes them unique but also puts them in a class all be themselves, which they always were anyway.

Forget about the interviews, bonus goodies and the like, this is JP straight up with no chaser, 23 tracks of blistering hard rock to set your soul afire and make that hole inside you fill up with nothing but pure unadulterated metal energy. Yes, this is what it is all about metal heads, the king is sitting back on his thrown, long live the Priest! Even Diamonds And Rust with an acoustic guitar strumming along rocks with Halford at the helm.

I remember the concert in Worcester, Mass. this year and looking at the person that accompanied me. We both stood there shaking our heads in awe at how Halford could still scream as he does, he was truly amazing. If you happened to miss any of the shows this year this DVD is living proof of everything I am saying. This was a true gift for me, a memento to one the best concerts I have ever seen. I know Budokan is a great venue and bands record live there for a reason, so this is yet another monument to the importance of the site. Whether you were at that particular show or any other this year, or even if you were not, get this DVD.

F5-A Drug For All Seasons

Artist: F5
Title: A Drug For All Seasons
Genre: Rock/Metal
Label: Dead Line Music
Website

I feel guilty about not reviewing this album several weeks ago; it totally rocks from start to finish. F5 is one killer, kick ass unit. On their debut release A Drug For All Seasons, they show why they could easily be one of top selling acts in the world in 2006. I know they have not broken big yet but just wait, they will.

Dave Ellefson had one thing to do after leaving Megadeath, start another band, and one that rivaled if not surpassed his long time gig. I think this band leaves Megadeath in the dust. Do not get me wrong, I love Megadeath, but they are living off their past work right now more than anything released recently.

They call this abrasive rock, and while it is, there is an incredible melodic sensibility running throughout this album. I know that is the very reason why I cannot seem to get this CD out of my stereo and why it has taken me so long to get off my arse and write about it!

If you like to get the adrenaline pumping into your heart a mile a minute then this is the album for you. When “Faded” kicks in to open the album, you know that one raucous ride is in store, it sets the stage. What starts with the lead off track is continued non-stop until the disc stops spinning. Ellesfson put together one potent unit before going into the studio and his judge of talent, besides being one talented musician, is obviously his strength. Everyone in the band, with the exception of the lead singer Dale Steele, is a multi-tasker with technical dexterity and high degree of professionalism. Steele does enough though, giving his vocal cords a major workout. He does not scream or growl, he grabs hold of a song and owns it with passion. His style is down-in-the-gutter rockin’ tough and a perfect fit for the music behind him. Ellesfson (who also plays some rhythm guitar) and drummer Dave Small, form a powerhouse rhythm section while John Davis and Steve Conley share the lead and rhythm guitar chores on electric and acoustic, plus Conley plays a mean ass sitar. When you put all of this together, the music most certainly is A Drug For All Seasons. The opener “Faded,” the title track, and “Hold Me Down,” are my picks for the most energizing and inexhaustible rockers. I do have to say that I loved every track though, even the remake of “What I Am” was hard to ignore, somehow Eddie Brickell and New Bohemians are nothing more than a faded memory 1 minute into the song.

This music gets in your face, kicks you in the pants, and makes you jump out of your chair and start bouncing off the walls. Be careful not to make your living room a mosh pit, but do enjoy it just the same. This may be a sleeper for late 2005 but wait until everyone starts getting turned on to these guys, watch out Godsmack and all the rest of you big time metal bands, there is a veteran rocker coming to your town to blow the roof of your concert venue with a young and vibrant band. This pulsating and vital music machine is ready to realize its destiny now!

Big Star-In Space

Artist: Big Star
Title: In Space
Genre: Rock-Pop
Label: Ryko Disc
Website

Big Star has not released a studio album since 1978’s Third/Sister Lovers. Everything they recorded, only three albums, are classic pop-rock unadulterated pleasure. It put them into a space reserved for only the greats in recorded music. Their legend has grown beyond iconic status into mythical and as more time passes their music gains more validity and notoriety. Surely, beyond anything they could have imagined at this point in their careers. With all of this considered the anticipation for this album was great. Personally, I love their music. Alex Chilton has constructed and played some of the best music I have ever heard with the Box Tops, Big Star, and during his solo career. So it comes as no surprise that I placed high expectations upon their new album In Space. In most cases when I do this, knowing better not to, I set myself up for disappointment, although rarely, I am very pleased and get what I expect. This was one of those occasions.

This band while different from the original Big Star lineup is still vital and fresh, even after nearly 30 years off. Chilton remains the centerpiece of attention with his signature emotive vocals and sharp guitar lines and Jody Stephens returns behind the drum kit. Half of the original members are back in the fold, so they are 50% of what they were. I would not expect a typical Big Star record, as you may find yourself let down. What I heard was a band that was tight and inspired, drawing from their eclectic roots to make one of the best rock-pop albums of the year. So how can a band be apart for so long and pull this off anyway? Well, when your good and have your craft down, its just a matter of a few practices, putting your ideas together, going back to the studio and letting nature take its course, right? Well, I tend to think it’s not that easy; however, Big Star makes it sound that way. Cream did it this year, it was a bit longer than 30 years though, and others have as well. While it is an unusual instance, it does happen and it makes it all so sweet for the band and their fans.

The closest thing to the old Big Star would be “Hung Up With Summer,” the rest of the album oozes with a rock-pop personification rarely heard these days. This proves the wherewithal of artists like Chilton and his mates. Everything that people were raving about, including yours truly, all these years was true. This is indeed “A Whole New Thing” for the listener young and old alike.

Their funky punky rockin’ Memphis infused soul bleeds through your speakers on the simmering cuts “Love Revolution” and “Do You Wanna Make It.” There is no doubt in mind that yet another generation of garage bands will be inspired again to pick up some instruments and chase the all-elusive dream. The subject matter has not changed all that much, it never does with timeless music now does it?

While they never ‘made it’ commercially Big Star certainly influenced legions of budding rock stars and this album probably will not reach great heights or have the commercial viability of current fodder that is being overplayed on your local radio station. No, this is not your everyday recording either; it’s another classic that should be cherished like all of those that came before it. We can only hope that this time they stick around to make a few more great albums just like this one.

Pink Floyd-London 1966/1967

Artist: Pink Floyd
Title: London 1966/1967
Format: DVD/CD
Genre: Progressive-Experimental Rock-Psychedelic
Label: Snapper Music
Website

Peter Whitehead’s film Tonite Let’s All Make Love In London focused on swinging London in the 60s. A friend of Syd Barrett’s suggested that his band would be perfect for the soundtrack of the movie. Whitehead was already familiar with Pink Floyd from the days (1964) when they practiced in the cellar of the building he lived in.

This piece of history is now available for the first time from UK label Snapper Music. I was amazed watching this nugget of culture and music. It is hard to imagine that this happened forty years ago. It does not seem possible. Its comparable to jumping into some strange time warp when you get involved watching an absorbing film like this.

The focus of the film is the youth of London. The talk of the day was their literal lust for the good times found in the cities nightclubs, namely the thirst for sex. While Pink Floyd’s music was light-years ahead of its time so was Whitehead. He captured a time in the course of our history in culture and music that shaped the future. There is some shocking footage, considering it was 40 years ago. One the first scenes to open the film are a completely nude girl covered in paint and the British flag as she fondles her nipples. This is something you would expect to see today, not in 1967. While it did come as a surprise, it should not have. It was a time of free love and personal expression, which seemed to have no barriers.

The original lineup of Pink Floyd included Syd Barrett, Nick Mason, Roger Waters, and Rick Wright. The DVD shows the band performing their freaked out psychedelic tripped out tracks, which I refer to as progressive or experimental rock, “Interstellar Overdrive” and “Nick’s Boogie.” What is nice about this package is that they included a CD you can play on your stereo as well.

Whilst I felt swept away by the images before me, I was equally astounded of how advanced Pink Floyd was in the pre-David Gilmour era. I realize the importance of some other bands that were traveling down the same road like The Beatles and The Pretty Things but I have to say that this was simply an outstanding recording and film while providing a great example of the future of music developing and taking hold right before your eyes. They were truly innovative and a pioneer of a genre. This is history in the making for film and music-an all together awesome combination and a marvelous dedication to the creative arts.

Grateful Dead-Fillmore West-1969

Artist: Grateful Dead
Title: Fillmore West-1969
Format: 3 CD/Book Set
Genre: Rock-Blues-Jam-Psychedelic
Label: Rhino Records
Website

No sooner did I state in a recent review of the Jerry Garcia Plays Dylan CD-“I expect the flow of live material to keep coming from the vaults of the Grateful Dead,” then do I find myself holding this gem. Fillmore West-1969 is a moment frozen in time, and a spectacular one at that. To think that the Dead had only a few studio albums behind them at the time, and they would only get better simply amazes me. What I heard on these three CDs was an incredible live band totally in command of their presentation. Their ability to improvise would make every live show they ever performed an entirely different experience. For this very reason, the resulting floodgates have opened to countless live recordings. And there is certainly enough fans of the Dead worldwide more than willing to gobble them up as soon as they hit the streets, legitimate or bootlegged, it does not seem to matter.

Rhino makes every effort to impress by offering Dead Heads a beautifully put together package. The three CDs come housed in a heavy duty cardboard mini book style case, which includes several pictures in both black and white and color from the era, an excellent write up, a picture of the original hand written set list, and each CD comes in a quality sleeve with nice b/w shots of each band member. Those are the bonuses. The music is unbelievable.

As my education continues regarding the Grateful Dead and their amazing guitarist Jerry Garcia, my fascination and hunger for their music increases. Now I finally understand how this band created an entire culture by themselves with their legendary live shows. Monster jams like “That's It for the Other One” run for nearly 24 minutes, almost equal to an album’s worth of music (based on LP day standards). Normally if hear a song that goes on for that long there is some flash, pompousness and boredom, never have I experienced this listening to the Dead. Every song is a journey within itself and it was because they had this guy named Garcia that could take them down any road he chose. I know I place a lot of the focus on Garcia and that is probably not fair, the rest of people in the band were equally talented, they had to be, otherwise jams would never develop as they did.

The Grateful Dead invented the term jam band, and they clearly defined it every time they took the stage. Just one listen to a magnificent set like this on their home turf in San Francisco tells the story.

Larry Greene makes being Christian a cool thing with his energetic new album titled Light Of The Way. Greene displays his love for the creator with heart warming and melodic lead and harmony vocals. For those that normally do not listen to this type of music, there is an opportunity to explore something different and to expose some unknowing friends that could use a lift. Because of the type of music that is set to all the lyrics, everyone ends up walking away with a smile in their hearts.

During the course of the 11 tracks Greene and his supporting cast, manage to keep it fresh with different styles of music, all the while getting his message across to the ears that may be open to receiving it. With a combination of religious rock and pop, your troubles melt away. The blend of Greene’s vocals and different configurations of the keyboards make for the most effective musical during this recording.

Anyone that walks the earth has the opportunity to enjoy this music; the only prerequisite is that you believe in a power greater than yourself, which most people have some level of understanding or personal interpretation. In this world of technology and corporate gluttony, it is refreshing to hear artists that are willing to step forward and put out some music with hope and a positive message. The world needs it now more than ever.

When the CD stopped spinning I think I walked away more enlightened by the message than the music itself. From a musical standpoint there are not any risks taken but it’s consistent. I enjoyed the pipe organ especially but felt there could have been more variety and depth with the music to parallel the sincerity and influence of the message. This is in direct relation to the overuse of the processed keyboard-drum beats. Perhaps more focus on acoustic guitar parts and the use of layered keyboards would make a difference next time Greene steps into the studio. Regardless of my critique, it was nice experience and something different for a change, and that made it an entirely enjoyable experience for this listener.

The Long Road Home - The Ultimate John F

Artist: John Fogerty
Title: The Long Road Home - The Ultimate John Fogerty – Creedence Collection
Genre: Rock
Label: Fantasy/Concord
Website

A cold day in hell happened, John Fogerty resigned with the label he fought with in the courts for years. That is right; John Fogerty of CCR fame has resigned with Fantasy/Concord to record a new album of material and a DVD in 2006. But wait, that is not all, the best thing that happened is the release of a career defining CD encompassing 25 tracks spanning Fogerty’s career with CCR and his solo work!

It certainly has been The Long Road Home for this American icon. All Fogerty ever wanted was recognition, credit, and the respect of his work from the label, finally, he has it. He feels as if the label is honoring his artistry. And indeed, they are with this spectacular release.

Everything is remastered for a second time around and the results are fantastic. I covered all the remastered albums and the box set and felt as if I died and went to rock ‘n’ roll heaven; it even sounded good on my cheap little car stereo. Well this one takes the cake. There is not one bad cut on this disc. All the hits from Fogerty’s successful albeit underrated solo career and then all the classic CCR tunes all come to life in your living room. It gave me chills and made me smile. Maybe now there is a chance the boys in CCR will reunite, you just never know, well, I guess that would be asking for too much now wouldn’t it? If Fogerty can resign with his nemesis after over 30 years, I guess anything is possible though.

Besides all of the crisp and clear remastered studio cuts, you get to hear some rousing versions of tracks live. “Almost Saturday Night,” “Fortunate Son,” “Bootleg,” “Hey Tonight,” “Rockin All Over The World,” and a smokin’ blues-rockin’ version of “Keep On Chooglin” are some of the highlights of this disc. He sounds more like a Steve Vai type in the opening minute of “Keep On Chooglin” than John Fogerty, it is very impressive, the dude can still rock like folks half his age.

This was an absolute treat for me. The older I get the more I love this music. Twenty-Five tracks does not cover a career like Fogerty’s, it encapsulates it effectively. This release does a fine job considering they kept it down to a single CD. This a good setup for what is to come. Some labels are very smart with the way they market their artists and there is no one that deserves it more than John Fogerty, I hope he makes a ton of money and enjoys his new relationship with the label. I am sure that history will not repeat itself; everyone has learned their lessons and moved on, now its time to enjoy the music!
