[BRIS]THE BUG & WARRIOR QUEEN (UK/Ni

The one and only BUG!!!!!

Dank Morass and Monster Mash (in conjunction with Civil Society & 4ZzZ 102.1FM) are proud to present the debut Brisbane show for Kevin Martin's epic dubstep project The Bug. The Bug currently stands in the centre of the UK dubstep scene, but his history as an artist plumbing the depths of sinister, bass heavy music stems back more than two decades. Martin's projects have shaped the sound of the UK underground and in his latest incarnation he has produced one of the quintessential albums of the burgeoning dubstep genre, London Zoo (Ninja Tune, 2008).

The sound of The Bug is monstrous. Martin's epic production distils the elements of dancehall, noise, grime and hip-hop and combines them to produce a sonic explosion of devastating proportions. He cuts up pounding bass, driving rhythms and dancehall beats with stunning vocals from the likes of Tippa Irie, Rick Ranking, Flowdan and the irrepressible Warrior Queen, who joins The Bug on stage as the vocalist for this tour.

This night of bass mayhem will commence early, from 4pm, allowing Brisbane to round off its Australia Day long weekend with one of the most overwhelming sonic assaults in the world today - even if you have to work on the Tuesday! Be advised that the Dank Morass & Monster Mash crews have organized additional sound and lighting rigs for this one-off, epic performance. dB levels will be pushed to the limit so ear plugs (and a spare pair of shorts) are highly recommended.

Bio:
The Bug AKA Kevin Martin's long resume of projects include Techno Animal, Ice and God (all with Justin Broadrick of Napalm Death and Godflesh), Curse of the Golden Vampire (with Broadrick and Atari Teenage Riot's Alec Empire) and many more. Other collaborators in his esteemed career include John Zorn, El-P, Blixa Bargeld and Antipop Consortium.

Amidst a synthesis of diverse genres, The Bug places a 21st-century twist on reggae's Babylonian rhetoric, embedding biting commentary on society in the midst of the pulsating basslines. Tracks from London Zoo are certified dancefloor killers, at the same time being compared to the "rage-filled exuberance of such classic state-of-the-world addresses as Specials, Marvin Gaye's What's Going On and Black Flag's
Damaged" (The Observer)

Originally Hailing from Jamaica, Warrior Queen will join The Bug on stage as his MC for the show. She has an extensive body of work in dancehall, garage, dubstep and beyond, including collaborations with Skream and DJ Zinc. She has voiced the iconic Bug single "Poison Dart" as well as the stunning album track "Insane". The Bug and Warrior Queen are currently completing a series of US dates with Nine Inch Nails.

Full line-up:
THE BUG & WARRIOR QUEEN (UK/Ninja Tune/Hyperdub)
Nam Shub of Enki (Monster Zoku Onsomb)
Frosty (Hard Graft)
Samedi Soundsystem (4ZzZ)
Citizen vs Delstar
Swob (Dank Morass)
Walrii vs Danck (Dank Morass)
Lao Mirador (4ZzZ)

When:
Monday, January 26th (Australia Day public holiday)
doors open at 4pm (gig should finish around midnight for those who have to work on Tuesday)

Where:
Step Inn in main downstairs room
(cnr Brunswick St & St Pauls Tce, Fortitude Valley)

Tickets:
$20 pre-sold from Rocking Horse Records, Butter Beats, http://www.oztix.com.au and all Oztix outlets
$25 on the door if available

DRUMCORPS <aka Aaron Spectre>(USA/Berlin)

Brisbane finally gets to experience grindcore meets breakcore. The phenomenon that has been grown in Boston, hardened in the NYC pressure cooker, and engineered in Berlin.
Drumcorps is a one man sonic tour de force that has undisputedly become one of the most unique independent producers blowing up the underground scene today. Tearing up some of the biggest electronic festivals around the world, Drumcorps delivers a wild blend of live guitar work, blistering gritty drum n bass, & frantic breakcore, all
rooted in a DIY driven punk aesthetic. With numerous vinyl releases under his belt, as well as putting out albums for both of his projects, Drumcorps has been taking the music world by storm. In 2007 the Drumcorps album
"Grist" won an honor of distinction at Austria's Ars Electronica, a yearly prize whose past winners include Aphex Twin, Chris Cunningham, Sunn ((O))), and Plastikman. A prime example of the changing face and sound of modern music, Drumcorps is a freight train of insane broken beat belligerence, that leaves all the walls falling, and minds melting and begging for more. If you have not heard and seen this badman in action, you are seriously missing out on some of the most innovative ideas being applied to music today. Sought after worldwide, there is no mistaking the sound and presence that is Drumcorps..

THE BERZERKER DJ. (Australia)

The Berzerker is one-man speedcore DJ assault - originally signed in the mid 90's to the Lenny-Dee's label Industrial Strength. He pioneered the combination of brutal gabba with death metal guitars and vox and was
snapped up by one of metal's biggest labels Earache Records.
The Berzerker deal in a pestilent and unsubtle brand of sonic violence. Larynx-liquidating vocals disgorge lyrical gouts of graphic ghastliness. The Berzerker's frenzied programming, tortured samples, and impossible tempos conspire to accelerate heart rates to the bursting point. With an insanely accentuated, ultraheavy brand of grindcore that's similar to the most savage works of Napalm Death and Carcass, The Berzerker operate at the very limit of sonic brutality.
The Berzerker band are renowned as being the most brutal metal act on the planet, and at Monster sMASH Fest we have DJ Berzerker - Luke Kenny getting back to his roots to blast us with the music that has pulverised all of Europe and the USA.

SICKBOY (Belgium)
Sickboy has become one of the best recognized names in breakcore all over the world, with releases on Tigerbeat 6, Peace off and just about every recognisable breakcore label - he keeps pushing his sound and creativity with every release. He is also one of the brains behind Europes biggest breakcore festival - ' Breakcore Gives Me Wood ' which
is the mecca for any self respecting hard music maniac.
Sickboy is a musician who fluctuates between frenzied up-beat, party-oriented mashups to mind melting hi-tech breakcore madness. His exhilarating, enthusiastic and insane-as-ever attitude of mixing old school rave, new school electro, breaks and madness, invites everybody to rave and party non-stop. He is a hard-as-concrete joyful and colorful artist that has forged his own sound, released an incredible amount of quality records and organizes and plays the biggest festivals all over Europe. The force is strong with this one. Sickboy is an institution. Sickboy's performance will not disappoint the adventurous.

EITERHERD (Austria)
Eiterherd has been involved with experimental electronic music since 1993. In 1996 Eiterherd founded the seminal experimental hardcore label Widerstand Records which nowadays still releases records by artists from all around the world. The idea behind Widerstand Records was to deliver unconventional music as well as implementing non-profit orientated ways of doing record business and having various political messages.
Eiterherd is relentlessly touring Europe and is well known for having been an innovator in the Breakcore sound. . He has released one full length album and many EPs and tracks on compilations. He has been promoting extreme underground music for over 10 years, runs one of Europes most respected music festivals "Elevate Festival" and is one of the true survivors of the political underground electronic music scene. Like his extreme music his attitude is righteous, unconventional and punk. Be prepared when Eiterherd destroys Monster sMASH with his music of mass
distraction.

BLACK LUNG (Australia)
David Thrussell is a poet trapped in the body of a hillbilly. Or a hopeless romantic hidden in the twisted
frame of a dark electronic musician. He is also a provocative Australian-based DJ, producer, remixer,
musician, and anti-copyright sampling activist. Known worldwide as the central member of the industrial-electronica
outfit Snog, Thrussell has produced innovative electronica, industrial, techno, powernoise and avant-garde music for over a decade. He has consistently toured the world and releases on some of the biggest labels in the industrial scene - Ant-Zen, Hymen and Metropolis.
Black Lung consistently promotes the pro-sampling agenda of Musicians Against Copyrighting Of Samples, and often questions the mind-numbing effects of contemporary mass media. His music combines savage and witty critiques of
contemporary Society, references to conspiracy theories and counter-cultural icons.
BE afraid. Be very
afraid.

Snog - City CD-EP

So what is it with these SNOG guys?
Just when we have them all figured out as agit-prop electro propagandists they go and drop a brand new CD-EP the title track of which (City) is an electro-”power ballad”. And a strangely affecting and even touching electro-”power ballad” at that. Don’t they know that electronic bands are meant to just make the same record and over and over again? Sheeesh. This could really upset the apple cart.

And what’s with those new collaborations with those denizens of the deep, Monster Zoku Onsomb? Are they weird but kinda catchy or what? And Thrussell (if it really is Thrussell?) now he sounds a bit like a mutant Berlin cabaret singer from the 1920s over an elastic mashed-up beat. This really is too much.

And then they bring out the remixes, The Calculator’s svelte dancefloor killer, Curse Ov Dialect’s straight-up insanity and to top it off right near the end of the record there is some guy sounds like he is singing songs around a camp fire to a bunch of Girl Guides.
What the freak is going on here?

“Snog is the greatest band in the world at the moment. Sorry that's it, that's all.”

IDENTITY

Alkaline Records | Shejay | Vitus Productions | NERU | One Luv | DILYSI |
Toymaker | MSE : United States of America

Identity has landed her spot as North America’s leading underground female hard house dj. Throughout North America, eastern provinces of Canada, Australia, Nova Scotia, Europe, and Asia, her music has been heard, and her performance has been witnessed! From old school bouncy and clubby UK hard house, to the hoovering madness in todays driving style of NRG, Melissa never lets a crowd down with her broad range of hard dance music. Having been introduced into the electronic music scene at the age of fifteen, Melissa found a love for the music and the atmosphere that filled the massives, as well as outlaw events she attended. Being especially drawn to the reaction of the crowd with the dj that performed, she knew that there was a calling for something more then just dancing. Melissa started her musical adventure at the age of five when she began learning how to play the piano and the organ, taught by her mother. As she got older, she started with various other instruments such as the harmonica at the age of ten, the guitar at the age of twelve, percussion as the age of 14, and synths at eighteen. By the time she reached sixteen, she invested in turntables, headphones, and a mixer, watched and learned, and began playing various house parties and local teen center shows opening for bands. By 2003, her name spread, and she began playing some of the best events in the Northeast. By 2004, she had her first international gig, and by 2007 she would have played in virtually every major city in the northeast, and midwestern parts of the united states, as well as various cities in canada. Her music has been distributed, and played on radio stations throughout the world, and her personality has been recognised and respected by people across the globe. Her energetic performance, vast music style, turntablism, and track selection has given Melissa a high five in America’s Hard Dance scene. Along with being an exceptional musician and dj, Melissa is also a promoter of a New England based crew called the New England Rave Union (NERU) that reaches out to the local scene, and promotes events of past standing. She accepts the new guys, and gives them a chance to play outside the bedroom, and has been successful with gaining her crew members access to many different events, and having performed internationally as well. Melissa is an exceptional person, dj, musician, and friend, and supports so many aspects of the scene and all of its elements and all of its musical styles. She is a must see at your events, and a must meet at your gatherings. For booking info contact booking@shejay.net or djidentity@hotmail.com

Hi all, I'm Bugs. myself and my mate, JimJam - who DJ's and we both run The Awakening (a Psy-trance club in the UK) will be in Byron on Saturday 5th April 08.

I was in Byron 7 years ago, and made it to a few Doofs - Summer Equinox @ Hells Hole, Nullum Forest. Trancendance in Gosford Forest, The Dawning festival, and a few other events.

Experience - Hendrix/Vaughan Show

Sawtell RSL - Fri 2nd Nov
Ballina Hotel - Sat 3rd Nov
Twin Towns - Sun 4th Nov

[b:14551bfdf4]The legendary music from two of the greatest names in rock music comes to life in a very special event entitled "EXPERIENCE - A Tribute to Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan" - featuring three of Australian finest rock and blues musicians, Kevin Borich, Mal Eastick & Steve Edmonds.[/b:14551bfdf4]

Like millions of people around the world these three performers have been influenced by the music of Hendrix and Vaughan and for many years they have incorporated the essence of the two legends into their own playing, becoming disciples of the style. Hendrix's music in particular helped shape a generation. His arrival and subsequent performances in United Kingdom in the late sixties turned the British music scene on it's head. Players such as Eric Clapton, Pete Townshend, Jeff Beck and many more were absolutely astounded at what Hendrix was able to achieve with his guitar and outrageous stage persona. He was a black superstar that had massive appeal to white audiences both male and female. On the other hand Vaughan's legacy is that he resurrected the blues with a Hendrix inspired rock approach. His ferocious guitar playing reverberated around the world, inspiring countless players along the way.

This show will revisit timeless rock and blues classics such as Jimi's Voodoo Chile, Manic Depression, Foxy Lady, and Purple Haze, and Stevie's classic Cold Shot, Texas Flood, Couldn't Stand The Weather and Pride & Joy.

[i:14551bfdf4][b:14551bfdf4]Hendrix's influence continues to define rock music as we know it.
Vaughan's explosive playing took the world by storm.
Both took their music into the stratosphere and beyond.
Experience it all in one big show never seen before!
[/i:14551bfdf4][/b:14551bfdf4]
Special guests include John Makey (vocals) Ian Lees (bass) and Rudy Miranda (drums)

hey how is everyone? im guessing youve heard the news by now about the mardigrass doof being cancelled! my friends and i are so devostated! the council decided that there needs to be a permit and all that crap! this would have been my 6th year in a row at the mardigrass and the doof always tops it off perfectley. im just hoping somehow, somewhere, the mardigrass doof will prevail.........

Previous In Thread

Re: THIS SUCKS!

There is like a mega huge thread about it on oztrance..

Basically the council and police don't want it to happen and put a stop to it.

They want to create a riot so they can shut down the mardi grass forever.. the doof draws like 2000 people away from the streets at night.. with no doof thats extra people wandering about nimbin..'

Sucks cos we were soo keen to go.

Previous In Thread

THIS SUCKS!

Hey people
i heard that the mardi grass doof got cancelled because they needed to submit a Development application 2 weeks before and they didn't so the lismore council rejected it. Its the first time they have asked for a DA to be handed in for it and ive heard they didn't tell organisers before the 2 week period. I think this is totally unfair and plain !@#$!@#!@. I hope some other stuff can be organised instead......
any one else heard of this?

Reply

Mardi Grass Doof Cancelled By Lismore Council & Cops.

See Oztrance for more details, but there will NOT be a Nimbin doof in the Lismore Shire.
