well it was posted in 2007!

Why don't you post it in the EVENTS LISTINGS? (use the "add event" forms)

There people can look up events by date!

This something that Myspace, Facebook, etc do not do very well as they are not designed for events trying to reach beyond a limited list of "friends".

also Myspace is rather frustrating to use on old/slow computers.
Their javascript is too memory-hungry.

Don't be ignorant. Straightening things

I felt the need to do this, because of the amount of ignorance i've encountered on this site, i don't even know how i ended up on here, but in the 5 minutes it took me to browse i read a whole lot or rubbish about 'real goths' and 'posers' and who deserves to judge these criterias.

I felt these people needed to be straightened out.

Now don't get me wrong, i have a great appreciation for the gothic culture, but the way some people think of it is ridiculous, childish and incredibly ignorant.

Actually, the lack of depth in your research shows how naive you are about the actual roots of 'gothic', having nothing to do with either bands, edgy hairstyles, black clothing, or 'living on the darker side of life'.

'Gothic' was a style that came about in around the Victorian era, where gothic architecture such as ornate cathedrals started becoming popular, and things like corsets, heavy and draping clothing, and thick boots/shoes were readily available (for those who could afford them) due to the obvious need for them in miserable cold, and dark weather. As most things were massproduced in the most affordable way back then alot of the material was made black, or grey; neutral colours, and thats what most people could afford. Red was actually a more popular colour (for the more wealthy people), not because it represented blood, but because it represented a sense of wealth (purple did this moreso as it represented royalty).

The actual original 'Goths' were a Germanic tribe who were at their most violent and maurauding at the time the Roman Empire fell. They had their own language and religion, which have absolutely nothing to do with anything anyone assosciates with the word 'gothic' now.

Around about 1981, as a concession to the energy of punk and the
pristine peacocking of the New-Romantics the 'gothic-punks' began to appear. Initially they modeled themselves on the Addams Familly, and then began to adopt the medieval, and victorian gothic into their costume. This is where your gothic 'trend' started.

None of you, unless you're a member of a Germanian Tribe, or were around in the Victorian Era and wear corsets and listen to classical music (which was actually incredibly popular in the 'gothic age') can call yourself 'REAL GOTHS', so you have absolutely no right to judge the people who wish to join the trend, just as you have. Call yourselves 'Goths', but anyone else who wishes to do the same has the right to, regardless of the difference between your idea of the trend, and theirs.

Being a metalhead myself, i do listen to and enjoy bands that have been mentioned like bauhaus, and slipknot (which is quite tame really), and these have nothing to do with the gothic scene at all. You can be a metalhead and like gothic culture, it doesn't make you a 'real gothic' or any better than anyone else.

As said above, People in the gothic period actually were restricted to listening to classical music, it was all that was around, and its the music that was enjoyed by people in that era. So for whoever said classical music is gay, and that listening to it makes you a fake or a poser, you are actually dead wrong.

Try researching a lifestyle before you preach that you know it all.

No disrespect to the people who actually like the gothic scene, in the true sense of the word.

FRONT 242 - Biography

Front 242’s entire history was clearly defined from the start when, in 1981, Daniel B. laid out his ideas on the first single : Body to Body. Following the recruitment of Patrick Codenys (keyboards), and Jean-Luc De Meyer (vocals) in 1982 for the first album GEOGRAPHY. In 1983, Richard 23 joins and completes the band as stage performer and vocalist.

A year later, the project / band developed and quickly reached a specialised audience in Europe. Successive tours and records are logical conclusions of the same concept of electro induced energy music. At the same time, the band already provided for it’s needs by having their own recording and graphic units. Wax Trax from Chicago is interested in Front 242; they sign what will be their first US release : the EP “Take One” (1984)

In 1985, the band played for the first time in large European festivals and flew to the US for some dates. They were soon tagged as a very powerful live group, and this form of music continues to spread across Europe under the monitor of “Electronic Body Music” which is the term Front 242 used to described the music they have invented. It is a collage, a synthesis of music and sound, recycled from the media or TV; and Front’s own interpretation of other artistic disciplines.

1988 saw the release of “Front By Front ” (including HeadHunter and Welcome to Paradise) which placed the band onto most of the covers of the European rock press. From now on, Front 242 is a fact.

Front’s vision continued toward fuller maturity. The world drastically changed since 1991’s “Tyranny For You“ album, and the members of the group moved with it. The two albums, “ 06:21:03:11 Up Evil “ and “05:22:09:12 OFF “ broke through the classical Front formula to bring in new vocalists, live guitars and drums. Redistributing roles and rules within the group, allowing other facets of the band’s personality to shine through. Andy Wallace (Nirvana, Sonic Youth) was called in to mix the album in Front’s studio. Exercising his talents within an electronic environment, bringing an abrasive, edgy, and seductive album to full potential. Released in 1993, the project showed the scope of radical invention and attitude, that goes hand in hand with Front 242’s music.

Taking a two year sabbatical didn’t stop Front from moving. It enabled them to realize two attractive CD’s: “Live Code”, recorded during their last world tour, brings to the forefront the power of the group’s live performance and sound. The compilation-album “Mut@ge-Mix@ge” proposes The Prodigy, The Orb, Underworld, Rico Conning, and Front 242 all on the same record.

More than a “remix” album, all the tracks, enriched by the innovative mixes of the other artists involved, and each dealing with different levels of technology, have been reedited in a specific order by Front 242 to provide a successful continuity of enveloping atmospheres and rhythms.

In 1997-98, the band has decided to undertake a World Tour to underline their last releases. Playing “live” has always been a good way for them to check out excitement and creativity. In that matter, the “live” music on their CD release “Re-Boot” includes new sounds and structures in order to present updated versions of older compositions.

After a long absence, Front 242 released the EP « Still & Raw » and the Album «Pulse» in 2003.

Based on an aesthetic from the 70’s and 80’s, when the roots of todays electronic music were influenced by German bands , Front 242 re-invents the original sound that was at the center of their art and enriched by 20 years of experience.

Analogue technologies and vintage machines pulsing into deconstructed tracks where emotion and research leads to a purely electronic attitude. Front 242, an unpredictable band, surprises the old and new audiences - while continuing to make the link with today’s music... with no concessions to their integrity.

FRONT 242 play exclusively in Dublin on Satuday the 28th of February 2009 in The Button Factory(formerly Temple Bar Music Centre). This show is the only date in Ireland and Great Britian. Do not miss this chance to see one of the true legends and innovators of the Electronic and Industrial scene. Tickets are priced €28.50 and on sale next week from www.tickets.ie, City Discs and Soundcellar.

FRONT 242 are available for interview by contacting Eric at towerpromotions@gothic.ie

Cabaret Nocturne and Rivetting Promotions in conjunction with the Under the Blue Moon Festival are incredibly excited to announce...

COVENANT(SWE)
DIARY OF DREAMS(GER)
HAUJOBB vs DESTROID(GER)
VOICES OF MASADA(UK)
IKON

Oct 10th 2008

at the AMAZING Roxanne Parlour (Coverlid Place, CBD)

In October 2008 Cabaret Nocturne and Rivetting Promotions bring you the biggest gothic industrial international tour Australia has yet seen! Headlining are Sweden's darkwave pop kings Covenant, on their second trip to australia after their triumphant 2005 tour. Informed by industrial, new wave and electro, and having created timeless dancefloor hits for the last ten years or more, Covenant's elegaic dark pop has found fans from Australia to Alaska and everywhere in between. They have spent 2008 headlining festivals all over Europe and, with newest member Daniel Meyer (Haujobb) on stage with them, will treat Australian audiences to a brilliant live sonic and visual performance. Accompanying Covenant on this industrial-pop juggernaut are: Daniel Meyer live, playing from his Destroid and Haujobb back catalogue. Meyer's last visit to Australia for the Distorted festival was arguably the festival highlight, and this visit will delight eager fans awaiting his return. Also Germany's Diary of Dreams, who, after persistent fan demand, divert from their current European tour to bring their gothic-tinged electronic show to Australia for the first time, and finally Voices of Masada, Britain's beloved contribution to this electronic gothic pop showcase. It's only fitting that Australia's own Ikon, recognised internationally for their New-Order-esque electronic melancholy pop, will support throughout the tour.

Re: Re: Arab-Israeli Conflict

What do you think of Obadiah Shoher's views on the Arab-Israeli conflict?
One can argue, of course, that Shoher is ultra-right, but his followers are far
from being a marginal group. Also, he rejects Jewish moralistic reasoning - that's
alone is highly unusual for the Israeli right. And he is very influential here in Israel.
So what do you think?

Clubwear &amp;amp; Hair new to Melbourne

Does anyone read this forum? Eyes down, questions start... NOW!

Did you know a new rave/goth/steampunk/streetwear/clubwear store opened in the Melbourne CBD last November, called Wildilocks @ The LockWorks?

Did you know we stock New Rock Boots, Threadless, Ken Gensrich, Space Tribe, Nubia/Vodabox, Random & Random Faerie, Sylph, Gossypium, Cyberoptix and are the exclusive Melbourne stockist of Covet Couture from Perth?

Did you know we also stock hair accessories, cuffs, sunglasses, goggles, jewellery, local music & publications, hair dye and hair & dread care products. And a whole bunch of other stuff I cant think of right at this second...

okay enuff of that, I'm bored of changing everything into a question...

Our address is Level 1, 382 Little Collins St, with entrance on McKillop St - just a couple of doors down from CBD Nightclub, so many of you will already know exactly where to come as you may have been to 3D or DV8! You can find us listed on Google Maps if you are not sure though!

As far as hair stuff goes Our Special Effects hair dye stock is brimming full, as is our KnottyBoy dread stuff stock! We use only Chi ammonia free permanent colours & lightener in the salon - if you've never used an ammonia free colour or bleach before you're in for a big surprise. Another item we have recently begun stocking in the Perth store and now in Melbourne too which many of you may never have heard of before but would find hard to do without once tried, is Biosilk Black Orchid colour maintenance conditioner - keeps dyed black hair *really* black.

The LockWorks opening hours are:

Tuesday - 10.00am - 5.00pm
Wednesday - 10.00am - 5.00pm
Thursday - 10.00am - 7.00pm
Friday - 10.00am - 7.00pm
Saturday - 10.00am - 5.00pm

The phone number in the store is (03) 9642 3384, and the main contact email address for the LockWorks is info@thelockworks.net

Any questions, pop in or drop us a line! We'll be at Rainbow Serpent for the first time this year too.

Cheers!

Metal + Opera

When I think of these 2 music genres I dont really see any sort of relation. I read a bit on that artist Tarja and these words were used. I remember when she headed the outfit Nightwish and I knew she could make this combination work. Something about Tarja and her music is dark, yet amazingly beautiful. Having that opera voice mixed in with rock/metal backing is something that just works. I was just a real fan Nightwish (especially the album Century Child) so hearing that Tarja is putting out a solo record was just real cool to me. Check out her site its really decked out and just adds to her mystique.

FIEND Magazine is an australian made goth subculture mag you'll find heaps of stuff in them, although it can be hard to find in any old newsagent, yet some do stock it, but you'd have more of a chance of finding it at your local 'off ya tree' shop (bong shop). Theres one in brisbane and one in surfers paradise otherwise look the shop or the mag up on the net to find out where its stocked :) hope that helps.
www.deviantart.com is an awesome site. do a search on there for 'goth' artwork and your bound to get lots. <br /><br /><br /><b><a href="http://www.spraci.com/boards/goth/109847.html">Previous In Thread</a></b>

It's not the fact that both of you fit into your stereotypes, it's the facts that you both have distorted views of the world and think you own the world that are causing problems in your friendship.

Also: Don't generalize. There are idiots in every genre or subculture.
I dislike it when all people with certain characteristics have a certain trait attributed to them.

Do you know all so-called "preps" and "goths", as you call them, in teh world? No. So, don't.<br /><br /><br /><b><a href="http://www.spraci.com/boards/goth/109798.html">Previous In Thread</a></b>

Omg...right...I remember that we're raising a new generation of incredibly self-centered attention whores.

Unfortunately, I was like this once, about three years ago, so I understand what it's like to be mentally limited.

So let me say this: What's wrong with pink or people who like soft rock?
Really, everything is relevant, so don't walk around thinking your so-called "gothic" point of view is lord-high to someone else's point of view....as long as your friends aren't judging you, you shouldn't judge them. Simple. I know lots of mainstream people who are actually quite nice and with whom I get along with.

Also, I dislike it when people listen to musically inadequate bands and call it "gothic". That's a bit of an insult to the goth genre of music.

Lotsa love and corrections, Sophia<br /><br /><br /><b><a href="http://www.spraci.com/boards/goth/109789.html">Previous In Thread</a></b>

er, can anywhere join this thread? yeah I do, though I haven't specifically been to a goth event for a little while. I used to love reading the goth forums as you have the most ridiculous threads and weren't just selling things. I'd join in, but for the most part goths are sad arsed snobs and would not appreciate the opinion of a smelly hippy.

Looking for a room/job in Melbourne!!!

Hey all!

I'm not a regular here but am looking to move up to Melbourne from Geelong ASAP! But am
in need of a place to live! I am an individual and can't put myself into a label but i
fit the gothic/emo label best. Wear alot of black, love all things darkness, etc but
there are also things about me that don't fit the sterotype - probably my prefered music
style is one! So if you have or you know anyone who has a room avaliable in either the
eastern suburbs, city, or western/northern suburbs not too far out from city then please
email me at em_is_strange@hotmail.com

Also i would like to get out of my current job at Target and work in a store that lets me
be more 'me' I am interested - and have experience in - retail work, especially clothing
and jewellery so if you happened to own a store and are looking for more staff or know
anyone that is please also send me an email!

Thanks ;)

EM!!
