Kasmir Peace Festival (fwd)

PostPosted: 29 Jun 2004 23:00    Post subject: Kashmir Peace Festival moves to Leh, Ladakh.

For Immediate Release

Re: Kashmir Peace Festival moves to Leh, Ladakh.

The Kashmir Peace Festival (previously scheduled for Srinigar, Kashmir) is a two-day music festival to be held in Leh, Ladakh. The festival begins on the 31 st of July and will conclude on the 1 st of August. It has been shortened to two days to accommodate for the arrival of His Holiness Dalai Lama who is scheduled to address a public audience at his residence in Ladakh on the 2 nd August.

This is a non-profit event, managed by a group from many nationalities, in particular Australians. The organisation of the festival has been constant for the past eighteen months; unfortunately due to a recent increase in violence
around Srinagar, locating the event beside Dal Lake, as previously planned was no longer possible. Therefore, the organising committee sourced an alternate venue and met with representatives of both J&K Tourism and the Ladakh Hill Council in Leh, Ladakh. As a result an agreement has been made that the festival should go ahead in Leh, with full support of the local community, and a team of local epresentatives, which has been formed to implement the new initiative.

International performers will arrive from Australia, France, the United States of America and the United Kingdom to perform. The International contingent will be represented by artists such as Aurora Jane, Primitive Wizardz, Growlsman and The Nail Factory from Australia, The Esquisse Project from France, and SONiA from the United States of America, including several other international acts that are in the process of reconfirming after the venue change.

The event organising committee are striving to make the festival a success with the major objective in mind of insuring the festival becomes a permanent fixture on the international music calendar. Because it is a new and innovative initiative, the Kashmir Peace Festival pushes the boundaries for international performers and offers local and national talent great opportunities to gain priceless international exposure. Designed to put North India on the world musical map.

Donations of all denominations will be accepted at the gate, with proceeds going to NIRLAC. (Namgyal Institute for
Research on Ladakhi Art and Culture).

Information regarding the festival and all associated events can be sourced at www.kashmirpeacefestival.com.
